AmberLaine's Journal, 18 Feb 16

So I have a question.. I've been using Instagram a lot recently, documenting my weight loss journey. I love it for many reasons, but especially because there are are fair few Slow Carb dieters on there, and there are very few active ones on here.
One woman I follow on IG is a Slow Carber, but she also seems to put cheese, yogurt, or sour cream on just about everything. Slow Carb only allows dairy on cheat days (except the occasional cottage cheese and whole fat cream in coffee), purportedly because of the lactose. So, to my question.
Would it be rude for me to ask her about the cheese? I hate stepping on people's toes and telling them how to diet, but she also just started and maybe she doesn't realize that cheese is not allowed (although it is plainly stated...). Idk. What would you do? Say something, ignore it, or unfollow?

You could probably ask without stepping on toes but it depends on how. I would imagine if you were "just curious" and seeing how it was affecting her, she wouldn't take offense but everyone's different so it's hard to predict. She may either do a modified plan or have addl info or may not have understood the guidelines the same way.

I would ask her how it was going with the dairy. If she is doing a modified plan she will let you know. If it were me I would appreciate knowing it was something I should maybe look at, especially in the early days....

I would just ask her, Amber. I also agree with Rckc, she might not know and it could be a help to her. Steady the course; keep going forward!

Agreed - ask in a curious way - not telling her how to do it

What HBC said, just curiously ask and then just say "I thought dairy was only allowed on cheat days". Just leave it at that

Well, I asked her! She wrote back saying that she isn't allowed dairy, but that she is a "rule breaker." So I guess that's that. I did ask her to keep me posted about her weightloss, because I am interested in how it works for her. Thanks for all of your suggestions

And then you have these people falling off the wagon because "the diet doesn't work and is crap", it's never the fault of their rule-breaking.

if you dont think its rude to post here, why would it be rude to ask/tell her ? Not that its rude here, Im just saying.. just offer a suggestion along the lines of " this is what works for me "

Cheese is a high-protein food and can help sustain you throughout the day if consumed in moderation. Milk protein can help keep your blood sugar stabilized after you consume it for several hours. Consuming a little cheese in moderation won't be the end of your weight loss journey and can help curb your cravings for worse foods. Try looking for natural cheeses. Softer cheeses tend to have just a little less fat than hard cheeses. All things in moderation!!

Thank you, phllmcgee. I follow my plan, the Slow Carb Diet, as strictly as I can. I do not consume anything that is not on plan, except on cheat day. That is when I indulge in cheese and carby foods.

My diet seems to dislike all dairy products. Myself a little cheating with cheese, or an occasional latte is one thing, but realize your cheating.

For anyone interested, the lady has changed her diet as of like 4 days ago. I guess no dairy and no fruit was too difficult. I hope she has better luck on her new plan (Slimming World - which I guess is like WW?)
