After two years of dilly dallying I finally gave “Couch to 5K” a try. It doesn’t mean I will achieve 5K. I am not ambitious. The objective is to get active again.
Special thanks johncip, Cindy, Ashley Asarver, MattRide. Here is a pelican photo for y’all.

That's great Y! You should post it! Wish I was as creative as you. I think this photo is frameworks!

Bear🧸🧸🐿️ Have you found your favorite bird yet? Pelicans entered my world when my grief was unmanageable, now I don’t even know how to go on without them. Once you find “The One,” it would blow your mind.

Yfritz you can’t lay *all* of the blame at my (also tired) feet! Since you were ready for some encouraging advice I think 🙂. But very happy if I helped in any way, and happy that you’re feeling energized again, and decided to start. The structured program is a great way to go IMO.

And yes, you’ll get used to the increases! The jumps in week 6 looked tough (I’m doing the active.com one), but I did it, after some procrastinating, and now I’m jogging the whole 5k plus extra. And I’m carrying an extra 30 pounds! Also, you’re not old Yfritz… but if you insist on it, then I am too 🤷‍♂️ let’s be wise and fit 😏 Don’t *demand* linear progress from yourself; add walking breaks if necessary and repeat the same jog in a couple days. Also, go for distance rather than pace; a slow jog is enough to trigger improvement if you do enough distance. And please wear running shoes 😂 knees and ankles are famously good at holding grudges…

I think Chickadees are my favorite. Right after Mr B passed, I got a post card of one in the mail from a local bird shop. It says that Chickadees mate for life. So, I've kept the card. But, I still love to hear Red Wing Blackbirds sing when they are all together. It's heavenly!

johncip I ran in the 97F heat today and I was seriously mad at you🤣 But blaming is not a productive concept here… Your encouragement was priceless. I should be giving you the famous yfritz medal, you earned it🏅

Black cap chickadee. I didn't realize there are 7 varieties.

🧸🧸🧸 that’s a tough call. You do mention chickadees often, you’re clearly attracted to them. They are lovely. I’m a bit partial to redwing blackbirds. I’m glad you understand their grace. I was once very attracted to redwing blackbirds, but my then-friends sort of ruined it by scoffing at my fascination. I really hate encountering bleakness like that. Actually, you are the only person I know who expressed an interest in redwing blackbirds, and I’m feeling a bit redeemed.

I know the RW black bird isn't the cutest nor the most beautiful bird, and they do make some sounds that don't sound great. I wanted my Dad to hear them and we watched on YouTube but no one captured them like they sound here. I live near a watershed and the birds sit on the cattails and sing. There must be thousands of them and when they all sing together there's nothing like it! Ok. I guess BB it is. Who says looks are everything?!

oh I'm so excited to see this. and thank you for the pelicans 😊 how is it going so far?

Bear🧸🐿️ RWBBs are niche birds for sure. I wholeheartedly agree that their sound repertoire is very rich. I know exactly what you are talking about. In the daytime their sound is piercing but at dusk their voice gains a sonorous, velvety texture that travels across the water and take you to another dimension. I couldn’t find it on YouTube either… Instead, it made me think about Claude Debussy’s song “De grève.” The first half of the song is chaotic, just like the daytime RWBBs, almost annoying🤣 then suddenly the dusk descends and a sunken cathedral emerges. The piano poignantly illustrates the evening ocean waves and the sound of the Angelus bells from the cathedral. The imagery and the sound of this song affect me so intensely that I don’t listen to it very often. Elly Ameling’s rendition is superb. I’m not asking you to listen to it, I just thought it was rather remarkable that your loving description of RWBBs made me think about this devastatingly beautiful piece of music. So, yes, RWBBs are indeed beautiful.

Wifey how did you get those nice pictures? It’s really hard to take pictures while on a kayak.

Well ummmm I’m a great photographer and so is my daughter! 😄😄 So scary though. Some quick snaps so I didn’t drop my phone in the lake!! 😅

Oh okay… I thought you went bougie and hired a photographer for a day. I see people do that. Those photos captured the joy very well, it was a nice surprise to see your hubs too.

Thanks YFritz. Hubby loves kayaking also. First time I ever kayaked was in Jamaica, 2013. I’ve been hooked ever since. So calming. Serene. Tough at times. The ocean can be wild. I much prefer lakes that are calm and quiet. Yesterday was perfect. How long have you kayaked? I’m thinking you’ve reached pro status. I’m amateur but advancing. Lol

great job! my husband says the hardest part is putting in your shoes! I just started a couch to 5k with the goal of the turkey trot. I'll be cheering you on virtually

Yfritz let me stop you right there. Even if you only did a half mile, your running is great! You're challenging yourself and setting a goal. Whether it's walking or walk / running or running, you're doing great. ❤️
