My first long post incoming, and I’m going to talk about something that’s been bothering me for some time… Food guilt. How do people mentally deal with having the odd ‘cheat day’ now and then, or having a chocolate bar when you’ve had a sh*t day and just want something to make you feel better? Mentally, I just can’t do it. I went out for my first meal out this evening with my family, it was to a Chinese restaurant (which is my favourite food ever) and all I wanted to do was somehow eat as little as possible because I felt guilty for eating something that I classed as ‘bad’. I am overthinking every meal, and scared that somehow if I eat something that’s a bit naughty or bad for me, I’m going to put on all of the weight that I’ve already lost and be back to square one. I know it’s silly and I know the odd treat can’t hurt, but I just wish I knew a way to be easier on myself. I don’t want to live in this calorie deficit, and one day I’d like to be more relaxed on what I eat and the calories I take in, but I need to to find a way to be less harsh and strict on myself first. I know having having willpower gets results and you can’t be too lenient on yourself, but I can’t seem to find that middle ground.

How does everyone deal with ‘food guilt’ and what helps you mentally whilst trying to lose weight? Right now, I’m struggling! Rant over. If you’ve read down this far, I congratulate you 😇😅

I honestly probably need more food guilt in my life so maybe not the best person to comment 😂 but in your situation maybe you need some self-love? You've worked so hard and your so committed and you need to remember that every now and then you're allowed to enjoy the food you love on those special occasions. Life is for living and you're allowed to enjoy it with your favourite foods occasionally. Don't know if this helps!

You need to change ur mind set and emotions towards food, download Insight Timer app, self hypnosis, brain training, neuro science, meditations, binaural beats...everything u can think of to help keep ur mind in the right zone, I swear by it

I have Saturdays for a cheat meal so to speak, once a week and after weigh in in the morning. I think for me I don’t refer to it as cheating as I’m not on a diet I’m healthy eating for at least 90% of the week. If it’s just a meal or a extra nice pudding it won’t make a difference over the week as my calorie deficit will more than cover it. Of course if one cheat meal becomes cheat days then yes, eventually it’ll be a problem. I love my food and if I was to deny anything I would go off the rails and damage would be massive so I have the mind set of life is for living, I need to be healthy for my kids so I eat and exercise well but I enjoy a good range of foods. I just remember many nutritionists and personal trainers saying that eating one bar of chocolate won’t ruin your eating, but it may help your mental health to enjoy something. Like missing a day of exercise, it’s not going to make you weak sometimes we aren’t in the mood. Sorry for waffling!
