Happy Monday FS fam! I had a rough weekend and was so sad that I couldn't get out of bed yesterday.

I know this will sound silly. I seem to have hit a plateau in my climbing and was soo frustrated with no idea how to proceed. I've recently moved into the intermediate climbs and can barely make it off the floor. My ass just hangs on the first holds dangling for life. It sucks. I was considering giving up and went to the gym last night with headphones on to stare at the wall who refuses to be climbed to say goodbye to climbing forever. I was thinking, I'm done; I've peaked; my climbing "career" is over. Now that I write this I realize I was being over dramatic, but I guess when you're in the feels it happens. Lucky for me I met some other women climbers who heard my sadness and pushed me to try to boulder with them and leave my pity party behind. It did lift my spirits to achieve new things. So I did more googling and found a path forward... more core, upper body and finger strengthening training. Fingers crossed this works. I really do love this as a workout rather than doing the usual gym stuff.

Thanks for listening! And for those women who didnt judge my pity party.... you are amazing and love your ability to support other women to push forward!

you can do this! Just know that you get so much more out of just having a good climb, take a moment to think about all you are gaining besides just climbing, you are gaining peers, fortitude, creativity etc. you get the idea! "Hang" in there LOL

Some unsolicited advice feel free to ignore it lol. Your totally on the right train of thought on the finger and upper body strength being your new limiting factor. An excellent way to train both of these at home daily is with a hang board or rock rings. Both take up almost no space and can give you short workouts with huge climbing benefits. Before I got a hang board when I was full bore climbing mode I would do pull ups on every door jam I walked past with just my finger tips on that half inch molding on top. It pushed my climbing to a whole nother level.

and don't get discouraged if it wasn't challenging it wouldn't be nearly as fun either. you will get ti that next level it will just take some more training to get there 👍

We are all allowed a brief little pity party before moving on to being better than we ever thought we could be. You're going to be great!

@otb thanks for the advice. Those are exactly what I read I should do. My gym has the hangboards and those rings. My climbing partner is a strong climber and said he’d help me make training plan to add those into my workout. Im excited.

@tim thanks for that and calling me an athlete. Loll I don’t really think of myself as one but it’s true I do get in my head and I needed to reset. I was getting competitive and comparing myself to the kids 20+ yr younger than me and getting frustrated. I need a new approach and hopefully this training plan will do it.

Thank you for this post. I feel the same way about ocean swimming. But let’s wait, let’s not give up quite yet.

So, let me get this straight— you were so sad at having hit a climbing plateau that you could not get out of bed? I am validating your thought that it sounds silly.

Push forward!! I’m sure otb knows what he’s talking about? Have you seen this guys setup?? At home? Truly a climber. Trust me lady, you’ll get further with this than most of us ever will!!! Ignore the comment before mine. Never kick a horse when she’s down!

@yfritz yes let’s not give up and also remember we do this because we love it. Progressing to the next level is just one of the things we love about it.

If you want a true girl power friend Wifey is where it's at! You are amazing and we all get in a slump and feel defeated once in a while even though some people on the internet who commented here clearly have no weaknesses 😎 So proud of you! ❤️🔥🔥🔥

😘💪🏻 We must lift each other up. And yes, constructively criticize when necessary. But encouragement goes a long way!!
