Anyone have any luck losing weight with hypothyroidism
Been doing research, some sites say keto is good others say don't have high fat
Some sites say fasting is good, others say this affects thyroid function
I have no idea what to do

Sorry if this is a stupid point, but I would think the first step would be talking to a doctor to see if you are a candidate for prescription thyroid hormone supplements, i.e. Synthroid. I have been on them since my thyroidectomy 6 years ago, and I only see side effects when I'm adjusting to a different dose. It costs less than $10/month for generic, even without insurance.

Hi there. I am also hypothyroid. I also had a thyroidtectomy, now 7 years ago. Working with my endocrinologist, to make sure my levels stay balanced - not to low, but also not too high, has worked for me. I go for blood work at least every 6 months. I drink euthyrox and it works well, as long as my levels are correct. IF has also worked very well for me and exercise even when I am exhausted

I have been to the doctor they started me on Euthyrox 2 weeks ago, obviously hasn't fully corrected the hormone levels yet, I am just struggling to get any weight off for months and was hoping anyone would have some advice on what works best for someone with hypothyroidism specifically, or if its more just a wait for the meds to work then it should sort itself out

@Bloodrose, yes when I first started on meds it took about three months for my hormones to balance out. I know it sucks. What really helped me was to take my focus off from my weight and to rather focus on my health instead. I changed my goals from loosing weight to being healthy. Weight loss was just a added bonus. And yes, my weight loss is slow, much slower than for some others, but changing my focus, has helped, as I know longer get demotivated by the scale. As long as I known I am being healthy and balanced.

I've started Ozempic and it's helped with my hyperthyroidism big time. And it's really helping me shed the weight.

I'm Hypothyroid. Biggest difference for me was going on proper meds. Was taking Euthyrox (T4) only for 11 years...horribly symptomatic and doctor eventually said he doesn't have the knowledge to help me further. Found a functional medicine doctor and he immediately put me Tertroxin (T3) and I feel amazing! No longer symptomatic and I lose weight so much easier. It took 2 years to get my dosage right. It still takes me longer than others to lose weight but definitely has even a game changer

When I was diagnosed with under active thyroid my doctor suggested that I follow a insulin resistant easting plan and I can honestly say that it helped me with my weight-loss.....I've since the also joined a gym and exercising really helps

@gyming yes totally agree! I found doing a lower carb insulin lowering diet has been the best and exercise is a non-negotiable. Without exercise the weightloss is decent but almost doubles if I do constant exercise

I also started with Euthyrox then my dr changed it to Eltroxin....also go for blood test every 6 months and so far all is good

Another hypothyroid user said just yesterday that they had good luck with keto and intermittent fasting. That aligns with the other insulin resistant and low carb comments on this post.

Only thing that ever worked for me was getting properly treated. A lot of doctors will tell you that TSH up to 4.5 is normal, but the newer standard is only up to 3. In my case, as it turned out, I actually had thyroid cancer (hopefully not a problem for you), so once I had that removed and was placed on a higher dose of Synthroid, 40 pounds dropped off without my trying. I'd suggest talking to your doctor
