Rural gas station ⛽️ Inside was full of hardware, tools, pickled sausages, fishing gear & tackle. A good old lady, dipping snuff, was tending to the live bait tanks and feeding crows. We chat over bottled root beer. Will miss you, North Carolina.

Paula I felt weird too that’s why I stopped. I know what I’m doing, no worries. Just check on me tomorrow darlin. I think I’ve got maybe 250 miles (~400km) to go, so not too bad. Thank you.

Hold on to it Yfritz, let’s get past this pandemic and you might be surprised of tricks I have up my sleeves. There are some remote places still have on my wish list. I hear you push chairs so there might be some possibilities as I drool on myself 😂🤤

A lot of gas stations around here still have the old style pumps. I hate the humidity but I'll never move away from NC.💙

Drive carefully. I admire your guts. I hate even going to the grocery store at night alone. Teach me how to be so brave!!

YF, awesome. Did you read Stephen King's 11/22/63? There was a kind of wormhole in the back of a shop. If you went through it you went back in time to just before the JFK assassination. It sounds like you found another one and went through it.

Spark, I used to perform miracles, I made quite a few non ambulatory people walk. I made them whole. But then they die or they forget me. I am not sure if I have any power left. I thought you knew the source of my unhappiness? It is soul crushing to realize that my deed did not mean anything, especially when I cared about them more than my own life. All I have left in me is disappointment, I’m not the same girl I used to be; if you could tolerate that, I’d be happy to push your chair. Let me know, I’ll be here for you.

DP, actually, I wished you had been there with me. I don’t know why, I felt that you’d understand what I was searching.

Mountainman, are you a Tar Heel too?💙 I didn’t get to know the mountain folks, I only know people from the vast flat acres of NC, but I am still a Tar Heel. Our resilience is a source of my pride. Dead, floating hogs, dead cows on the top of trees after Hurricane Floyd. We still rebuild, and to me, that’s North Carolina.

Eral, you are so rare… as always. I don’t know a single non-driver who pays attention to gas price (I used to give free rides a lot)

horridzombie, I noticed that rural areas are quickly eroded with residential development. Soon it will be all nail salons, Walmart and cookie cutter subdivisions. I will miss old NC💙

Wifey. Being “brave”(?) is easy. I never carry a purse, and my car keys are in my hand. Never look lost or distracted. Walk purposefully. That’s all. Don’t be afraid of stores at night, it’s pulsating with dramas! People who shop after midnight usually do so for ominous reasons, their anguish is something to behold. And think about the poor cashier who has to work night shift for the meager wage! It all sounds terrible, but I feel connected with strangers late at night. I’m very lonesome. See? My life is not what you think it is, it’s rather dreadful💙

Mr Gastropod, I regret to inform you that I’ve never read S. King😱😱😱 How un-American of me! INS might take my citizenship away. I’m more into writers like Flannery O’Connor or Wm Faulkner. Also, James Agee “Let Us Now Praise the Famous Men” influenced me.
