melissatwa's Journal, 13 Dec 20

Tonight we had a little early Christmas dinner with my youngest girl's boyfriend, who is heading out of the country to be with his family. We had Pot-stickers, stir fried veggies, marinaded and grilled chicken, and some Japanese noodles. Noodles and pot-stickers were easy! Not from scratch! I made lemon, poppy seed cake. I also made a cherry, pecan, spice cake from three different recipes I like. I was indecisive! My hubby gave me an early Christmas gift a couple days ago. My nearly 50 year old Kitchenaid mixer finally gave up the ghost. I love, love it and my wonderful man! Cat was looking picture ready, so he got included! :)

I have an earlier version of that same mixer. Great color choice. 😉. Donate the old mixer. There are people who refurbish them.

The cakes look perfect as does the beautiful cat. They have such a picture ready silhouette. That gift looks nice and shiny.

Love my kitchen aid. It's my only exercise... lifting it up on to the counter, then back down in to the cupboard, lol.

Nice KitchenAid melissa! May your old one RIP! My is purring like a kitty since the great lube-job debate of this summer. I bet you old one is fixable for under $30. FYI: we have the same kitchen chairs

Thank you all! Katsolo and sk, I am not sure what we will do with my old "beautiful monster" as my mom used to call it when I was little. I actually had to cry when it finally failed. It has been repaired many times. My dad had it's guts all over the table at times, and he finally gave up on it after replacing so many things and gave my mom a new one. It was sitting in a garage in the shelf with its poor pealing mixing paddles. I asked to take the dear thing home about 4 years ago. Its tired motor worked on for me. We fixed the thing the holds the bowl in place and repaired the cord, which was a repair of a repair. sk, you are trying to make me feel miserable again to say we could fix it for $30. I hate you! I am the type to get rid of everything as quickly as possible. I don't have a hoarder bone in my body, but I am sentimental about a few things, and this poor mixer is one of them. It is connected to some of the best memories of my life with my mom. She taught me to be a baker and a cook from the time I could crack an egg. My first full thanksgiving dinner for family and guests was when I was 15 and she had fallen and broken her arm and shoulder. I am glad I still have my mama, even though I haven't seen her since spring and wont be able to see her for Christmas. Darn covid.

Thank you GibJib for your wishes for his travel. He has heart problems from having had covid many months ago, and we are very worried for him. He is part of our family and the dearest young man we love so much.

LaughingChevre, the kitty was 99.99% included for you to "spot!" 😁

We're opposites melissa! I hoard but am not sentimental. When I was 14-15 yr old, I threw out 2 complete sets of TOPPS baseball cards from 1969 & 1970. Probably could have put myself through college with them. Anyway, you have my permission to scrap the beast👍 Don't need you hatin' on me and all that🤣

Oh goodness, sk! 😁 I have never tossed anything thst turned out to be valuable, but I have certainly regretted my purges when I realized the next day I needed something. I love the delightful joy of filling donation boxes and garbage bags. But, I have the ugly old tin my mom used to hold buttons and my dogs collar who was my dear friend growing up... Yeah, the sentimental bit of me is pretty annoying. Thankfully it is rather picky about what it gets attached to. 😂 I happen to like particular people too, so.... I guess my "hate" isn't to be worried about! 😁 ❤️ Oh, and the cakes look dark and dry in the pictures, but they were not!

A wise person once said "Dry cakes soak up more rum." Glad I'm the good list. 😅❤️

I had no clue the waters I was wading into were this deep. I was only suggesting you let someone else have a crack at it via donation since I know KA will repair if you send it in to them (definitely not free). there's an entire market for vintage appliances out here, so highly unlikely it would end up in the landfill. that said, sounds like you might want to repurpose it as a memory fixture somewhere in the kitchen. do what makes you happiest, I get it.

Hahah! Katsolo! You have the best idea! I know it is good to donate it. I was just cranky (not really) at dear sk for suggesting I could have fixed it and saved a mountain of money and still had my old beauty! 😁 I won't be making it into a kitchen lamp or immortalizing it in a shrine. I will probably put it in a shelf in the garage and a child of mine will ask for it and try to fix it some year. In the meantime I don't have to think about it and will enjoy my fancy new toy! ❤️
