Melissa, this looks so perfect. Is it a family secret recipe or open to the public of fs? I’d love to try your recipe. ☺️

Or private fs? Lol. You can private message or email me the details if the family allows. 😉

Hahah! I am a firm believer in sharing recipes! It seems silly not to unless you plan to start a business! 😁 It is actually quite a basic bread: 5c warm water, 1 tbs salt, 3 tbs yeast, 2/3c oil, 1/3c molasses, 1/3c honey, about 12 cups of flour. I use about 2/3 whole wheat to 1/3 white, but any combination works depending on how heavy you like your bread, but you know that! 400 degrees for 10 min and then 370 for 30. There you have it! 😁 I just finished the first step of mine today, and it is on it's first raise!

Honestly, I did not know that. What I do know is I like heavy bread where most people and my fam, like it light. Heavy seems to make me feel fuller which makes sense, right? And I like full, ain’t got no time for hunger. 😜 Recipe sounds so easy. My issue with bread making these days is getting the water the right temperature. One question, what type of yeast do you use, traditional, quick rise, etc? Thanks for sharing this Melissa. I’ll be giving it a go. Hope my tiny hands can knead this amount as I’m used to my two small loaf recipe. This makes 5 large loaves? Correct?

Oh and what kind of oil? Fancy molasses? Sorry for all the questions...not so simple after all. 😛 It’s just me needing details. Hubby says I’m so detailed...ha my defense is, so is God! 😌

It makes 4 big loaves! I just use whatever oil I feel like. Mostly just canola. The yeast is just regular old yeast. I don't have the package. I buy at least a pound at a time. Molasses is "grandma's" in a jar. Not FANCY. 😁 In Canada we usually get molasses in a carton with yellow writing on it. I can't think of the name. Water is tricky sometimes. I usually go hot and then cool it with other ingredients (finger test to make sure it isn't going to kill your yeast) before adding it. Then the gluten gets hopping faster.

I enjoy kneeding! It is sort of like a punching bag to get out stress!! 😁 I too like hearty bread, but since this recipe doesn't call for extra gluten or wheat germ to make it lighter, working it well helps with the raise! Good luck!!! 😁

Crosby’s? I always buy FANCY. HA! Do you use cooking molasses? Much stronger and darker. I’m scared to try this but I will. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Yes, that is it! The "family" cooking kind is richer, but I don't think you would do badly with either. "Fancy" is probably a bit lighter and sweeter. Experiment! 😁 The cooking is perfect for ginger cookies!!! Yum!!!
