Morning FS fam❣️

I was browsing tips on consuming fewer calories. Thought I would share them with you... Here’s the rundown:

1. Eat fruits and vegetables. High water, high fiber foods provide satiety.
2. Lean protein provides satiety
3. Solid foods are more filling. Drinks do not last as long in the stomach as solid foods.
4. Eat mindfully by paying attention to your body’s signals.

As I was saying yesterday, budgeting calories is like budgeting money. You pay your bills first before you splurge on entertainment. You prioritize foods that provide the necessities (satiety, nutrients,...) before we splurge on “fun foods.” Hope this helps❣️

I really like the "budgeting your calories" analogy!

Yes kissangel, I whip out my mats when I feel like I need it. A few stretches is all I need, I used to ransack my fridge and pantry for snacks. Replacing one mindless behavior with a mindful one was key. Stress eating induces more stress for me bc now I have 2 problems to deal with.

Sherry, my brain likes to organize and group concepts together. These two belong together like pb&j. 💞💞💞

I feel like you created this specifically for me. Yes, I'm just that narcissistic. So .. here's a question. I generally OMAD - not really for 'diet' reasons - it just works out that way. So .. with OMAD .. what is YOUR opinion (and yes, opinion only - not scientific fact) on the calories at that point? Do you feel 'as long as not exceeding RDI' it can be 'anything goes' as long as I go to bed without snacking? Or do you feel even with OMAD it should be a low calorie? I am just curious.

Bella, I did OMAD (one meal a day) in the month of Ramadan in 2002 to support a classmate. I gained something like 6-8 lbs in that month. I was eating one meal a day with zero calories in between. I was told by members here that it’s the number of insulin spikes that determine weight loss and gain. Another member advised members here that they can eat as much as they want as lose weight if they eat OMAD When I told them my results of 23:1 fast/OMAD they told me I was doing it wrong. These are the facts. My opinion is: if eating OMAD suits your lifestyle and gets you to your goal go for it. If it affects your happiness and those around you, find another method of splitting up the calories. Maybe the dieter would function better as a 2-madder or a 3-madder. As a mindful eater, I eat when I’m hungry stop when I’m full. This week I was z-mad (zero meals a day), OMAD and 3-mad. It doesn’t matter for fat loss how you split the calories as long as you’re in a deficit. We see people here on the 5:2 cyclical diet plan. Deficit 5 days, surplus 2 days. Whether they gain, lose or maintain depends on their overall intake and outtake for the week. Rosio, posted on calculating for weekly deficits so we can enjoy our time with our family and friends. We budget for more weekend calories and save more during the week. That’s how I began following the 5:2 plan for fat loss. It worked for me and made the whole process less stressful.

I thought I would be an OMAD-er, because when I was obese I enjoyed the feeling of being stuffed after eating, with belly protruding needing to open the top button or wearing buffet pants. It took a lot of training in calorie budgeting to know what “full” actually feels like and knowing when to stop.

Oh so true on that 'full'comment. That is not why I Omad now but I get it. I used to eat huge 'kitchen sink' salads for that 'full' feeling but finally realized / learned that by doing that I was setting myself up for failure because... when I did eat a calorie dense food like cheese, chocolate, etc., I wasn't able to understand when to stop. It took years for that one to get firmly in my mind.

And I know what works for one won't work for another so I appreciate you sharing your experiences. I'm continually bouncing around with the 80/20 and flexible and trying to make peace with food. At this age. I should have this down pat by now but we've seen how the rules changed throughout the past years and decades and I've followed too many blind alleys. Enough with the metaphors. I am so praying and hoping that I get this firmly in place this time. I want this to be my Groundhogs Day.

Our bodies do change with time and what we were able to eat years ago we may not be able to eat today. What diet methods we used before may not work with each plateau we hit... I lost the first 40 lbs easily without any calorie counting, but the last ten requires a lot more mindfulness. Also I *think* when we eat huge volumes of food in one meal, we end up expanding our stomachs, so we need more food to feel full. Thank you for writing your comments Bella. I can tell you have a very healthy mindset and are well on your way to your goal. 🐮 🤗 🔔

Lol keyten this was part 1 controlling calories in, your response + resistance training = part 2, increasing calories out (since most are on here for fat loss)❣️
