I think Adef is an intelligent, articulate, full-grown man who has been doing his own research and experimentation to find the plan that works best for *him*. What didn't work for *you* may not be analogous. Further, he has the full support of his wife, which makes everything easier on the home front. Additionally, Adef continues to tweak his approach and is fully mindful of what he's doing. He'll probably change things up over time in various ways. What matters is he's fully in the game and gaining great health benefits. It's hard to change one's behavior in a meaningful way at our age, and he has done it. Also, the various types of fasts Adef does may have serious health benefits even beyond losing/maintaining weight.

And his "binge" on Sunday was all of 2070 calories for the day. Not exactly a runaway train.
