49 days to go
Up 0.2 lbs
17.1 lbs to go
15.1g net carbs
I'm up earlier than usual .
I weigh before getting in the shower
Dunno how accurate a 4am weight will be ?🤔

Today will be a difficult day in more ways than 1
I have a 40 mile drive to collect my mum, then another 75 miles to bury st Edmonds.

We have been invited out to lunch by my mums cousin. She's "treating" us to lunch. She has lots of money and houses. She couldn't have children and threw herself into her career. She is an only child. Before her parents died, it was mum and I that travelled to do their shopping etc. My mum lived with her cousin and aunt and uncle when she first came to England, aged 18, 55 years ago. Maureen had all that money could buy, my mum lodged with them and sent any spare money home to her family in Ireland

My mums cousin has liver cancer. They've stopped chemo as it isn't working. She has all the material things and money she could ever want. She is lonely. She is dying. Today she is giving us some of her mothers jewellery and some of her unused designer bags for my girls. We can only give her our time and love ❤️

So I will just have to make the best choices with eating I can today.. my mum will be upset if I fast( managed 20 hrs yesterday).

If ever I saw a lesson that we only have one life , health and family are everything, live life without regrets.. the lady I'm meeting today is it.

I read yesterday that being overweight at 50 is the biggest risk factor for breast cancer in women.

So, I will try my best today, fast until lunchtime, not eat in the evening and write off any unavoidable carbs and try to enjoy the meal. Stay strong for my mum and her cousin .

No one has a perfect family or health, but today I am truly grateful for mine.. and today will give me renewed enthusiasm to follow my WOE to fight for my health.

Count your blessings, stay strong and improve your health and have a happy, healthy day my lovely supportive fs friends 😁❤️❤️

Wonderful journal, Poppy. Having a heart attack certainly made me realise that health is so important and definitely worth fighting for. Enjoy your day out.

Oh poppycom, I am sure you will make the most appropriate food choices and your mum won`t notice as all focus will be on her cousin. Families can be our worst enemies as well as our best friends.

No such thing as "unavoidable carbs." Just have a double portion of veggies instead. As someone in that over-50 age bracket, I would find out what your mum's cousin would do differently if she could go back in time. I would think that appreciating and living her advice would mean the world to her.

Thanks all. Doobrie and bowd65.. health and family are deifinately the most important things. The day went much better than we could have hoped 😁. On the diet front, there was a small amount of unavoidable carbs, but I probably stayed near to 20g net carbs Very proud of my mum, who wasn't well herself ( hence the unavoidable carbs, when she made me a slice of toast to take my meds and I ate held of it)... she was a star and handled a very difficult day so well ❤️❤️

April761, there is no way she can read this post. She is a lovely , brace woman and my heart breaks for her. There were no tears yesterday, but lots of smiles and laughter as we discussed the past and present in the way family with a Shared history do. Herself and her husband, who both worked in education, were genuinely interested in how my children were doing and offered lots of advice on exam prep and university admissions . They weren't able to have their own children but are very interested in others. He is losing his soulmate and doing all he can to help, support and Cheer her ❤️. Yesterday was a lesson on bravery fir me that I won't forget 😁. I'll be taking my mum to see them again soon 😘

Poppy, if you keep a ziplock bag of nuts in your purse, you won't have to worry about people pushing bread on you to accompany your medications. Everything is avoidable if you are prepared in advance.

Unfortunately nanette61 I keep the 50g bags in my car. My problem comes wwhrn my blood sugar goes too low ( from my diabetes). Low blood sugar and the opiate painkillers combine to trigger migraines which then cause me to vomit my pain medications. So on a day like this, I managed to stay within my carb limits as I had planned for this ( I knew I'd have to take extra pain meds for my joints from sitting driving- I have a genetic condition that affects my joints) So sometimes, I just need to plan to stay inside my allowance.. if my mum got upset then I'd get more stressed and definitely trigger a full blown migraine.. and not be able to drive home or drive my daughter to work as I'd be unable to see properly 😁 So, in my life it is all a balancing act and I was prepared in advance, so I didn't need the carbs to be avoidable. Everyone is different and thus is the way it works for me, with my health issues and WOE and family. What works for one person doesn't always work for others, but thanks for your help 😁

Sorry, Poppy, but I wasn't questioning the need for you to have food with your medication. I was just offering a portable, low carb solution to your dilemma. If you do not carry a purse, then this will not work, as the idea is to be prepared no matter where you are. Another idea would be a piece of fruit such as an apple. Only a couple of bites, then toss the rest. I have a diabetic friend who always has an apple with her for much the same reasons as you explained.

Thanks Nanette, I realise that 😁 I just wanted you to understand sometimes the solution is a balancing act fir medical reasons.. thanks fir the apple idea..I like the idea of that And as for carrying a handbag.. I have hand splints and walking sticks, so a bag is sometimes difficult.. but I have a disabled parking badge, so wherever I am, my car is nearby.. when I think about it, I treat it like a giant handbag 😂
