mskestrela's Journal, 14 Aug 16

It was a lovely wedding. I was up by 4:30 so I could have coffee, a shower, take care of the neighbors' dogs, and be on the road by 7. I got to wear 2 hats yesterday, because the bride wanted me to do her hair before I married them. Being multi-talented has its benefits! LOL
We got to the beach by 9, and gathered in a gazebo for photos, and to wait for all the guests to show up. It was already 88 degrees, with a clear, impossibly blue sky, 78% humidity, but a nice breeze. *Note to self: next time you agree to do a beach wedding in August, do NOT wear black!!* LAWD, it was hot!
I was fasted since 2 pm the previous day, and the groom's parents showed up with 3 dozen fresh Krispy Kreme donuts. Ack! If they had brought a jug of coffee, I would have been unable to resist, but I was able to graciously refuse partaking.
I was proud of myself for getting through the ceremony with only the slightest break in my voice.
We got to the reception house around 11, where I was able to change into cooler clothes, but it was up to 93 by then, and the activities were all centered in the garden. Hot, sweaty, and all the drinks they had were either sugared, beer, or had pineapple in them (2 sangrias). I'm deathly allergic to pineapple. I stuck to water. I never realized how NOT fun it is to be the sober one in a buzzed crowd.
I thought there would be lunch fairly early, but the ribs and chicken didn't even get on the grill until noon, meaning that there wouldn't be anything to eat until around 3 or 4. I decided to leave early, and came home to cool off.
It was still a very fun day. And as a bonus, my friends who were hosting the reception gifted me a bunch of pasture raised bacon, sausage patties and lard!
Today, I'm dedicated to resting...I hope your Sunday is peaceful, buddies!

sounds like a fun day! It was hot here also, in the 90s but at least there is a breeze. Good job on resisting the donuts and sticking with water! Actually it can be a fun experience being the sober one, lol.

Sounds like it was a lovely wedding. I'm impressed that you said no to the donuts, especially as you were hungry!

Way to go! BLACK on the beach, you must have been dripping! That sounded really nice! The gift they gave you was in most people's minds the oddest but absolutely PERFECT! relax!

Donuts are the invention of the devil. Your resistance is commendable.

Did someone say donuts!

Donuts are a particular weakness of mine, especially Krispy Kremes! They're so light, I used to inhale 3 or 4 without even thinking twice. Not often, but every now and then. Sugar covered air...invention of the devil indeed! I was dripping sweat..everyone was! If someone can remind me of the photo sharing site, I'll add some pix to the post.

OH my - the best part of your journal was the pasture raised bacon, sausage and lard! Yummy! (Nice that you enjoyed the wedding too!!!)

Scheduling an August wedding seems to be flirting with a weather disaster. Here we had heavy thunderstorms. My daughter went to a wedding with dire forecasts; I haven't heard yet if they dodged the storms. Not to mention the heat index over 100. Glad you had a good trip of it.

And you managed to have a nice weight drop! Avoiding donuts and beer pays off!

I can plant my face in QuickTrip Doughnuts and never return! That is my absolute weakness, and my crack! I can NOT go there. I'm still obsessing just reading DOUGHNUTS.. Ok, out for another walk to clear the brain of any doughnut power i might have just sniffed!

Yes, Frankie..I was blown away by the gift. The meat comes from Savannah River Farms, and is pricey stuff! The animals are raised with love and no GMO feed, as well as being allowed lots of pasture time, and killed humanely.

@Erika, yeah, there was a little concern over the weather, but our thunderstorms usually blow up in the afternoon. That was one reason for the morning ceremony. I did run into a little squall on the way home, but aside from the heat, it was a perfect day for it.

LOL, Lizzy. I think it's fortunate that they donuts came out while my mind was focused on the ceremony, and had been put away by the time it was over. I was hungry when we got to the house, though, and when I saw what was on the menu, and how late it was going to be when we ate, I decided not to allow temptation to even come up. It was, aside from the BBQ meats, a very carby menu!

Good loss there!

I believe that every time we pass on a temptation, that pass becomes part of our identity, just as every time we succumb to a temptation, that becomes part of our self definition. Am I a person who passes on unhealthy stuff, or am I a person who just cain't say no? I used to have snack stops on my long commute, stores where I would go in to buy stuff I shouldn't be eating and gorge in the car on the way home. Now, every time I pass those places, I'm reaffirming that I'm not that person anymore. So, it's no small thing to pass up the doughnuts and beer. You can do it because you have redefined who you want to be and who you are.

I believe you're right, Erika. An idea like that has been dancing around in my mind, but you put it perfectly into words. You always seem to. <3

Thanks, Warren! Not a big surprise, considering the buckets I sweated out! LOL The dogs at the house were loving licking all the salt off my skin.

Great strength not giving in. Nice weight drop to top it off. Good job.

Nice job on skipping the doughnuts. My wife suggested we stop at Shipley Donuts yesterday while we were out running errands and resale shopping, fortunately I dodged that bullet and she decided on breakfast at Golden Corral instead and I stuck to no sugar/low-carb food. The wedding ceremony sounds lovely, would have been nice if the grilled food had been prepared ahead of time.
