Windlepoones's Journal, 08 Sep 16

I awoke at 06:30am this morning, feeling somewhat worse for wear from the previous day’s excesses.

Down stairs I stood there looking at my cross trainer, but bleary eyed, mouth feeling like a gorillas arm pit and tongue stuck firmly to the roof of my mouth I couldn’t face it. I mumbled a greeting to Rio, he’s my favourite male moggie, a cat that thinks he’s human. Rio stared back at me, as if to say, “Has he lost the power of speech?” I needed a pick me up!

Venturing into the kitchen I put the kettle on for a pot of tea, but unwilling to wait for the thirst quenching brew, I grabbed a flat peach from the fruit bowl. It had ripened nicely. Like Zorro I deftly sliced it into four pieces removed the stone and popped the first quarter into my mouth. Oh bliss it was like an angle crying on my tongue. The other pieces followed in quick succession.

I heard a meow and looked at the cat flap to the outside world. The small face of Phoebe, our youngest kitten was pressed against the little window. She had been elected spokes-feline by the others waiting behind her queuing and waiting to be fed. The boiling water was now in the teapot and brewing the magically refreshing tea bags. While awaiting the green light on the brew I fed the cats and emptied the dishwasher.

I loped upstairs with Lulu Lowcarb’s tea and felt I was becoming a little more human again. My impersonation of Quasimodo didn't impress her. The tea helped. Lulu Lowcarb insisted I watch a video on the evils of alcohol and what it does to your liver and kidneys. Too much information that early in the morning and there was me thinking alcohol was a preservative.

Two cups of tea later I dared to get on the cross trainer. I set the timer for 10 minutes, but at 5 mins I had really had enough. I thought to myself, shall I press on regardless or shorten my training session. Being my own judge jury and executioner. I decided to be lenient. I gave myself time off for good behaviour. Hopping off and sweating profusely I made my way to the shower.

Breakfast was very enjoyable. Two large poached eggs on a bed of spinach which had already been fried in butter. Sated I sat outside in the sun enjoying a detoxifying drink of Bragg’s apple cider vinegar, diluted in 350ml of sparkling spring water topped with a sliced of lemon, lime and orange all poured over four ice cubes. It tastes great and is so refreshing. It’s claimed to cure just about anything from diabetes to bubonic plague all by altering the Ph of the stomach.

Lunch time I downed a slice of low carb bread topped with a slice of beef topped with half a tomato and a slice of onion all washed down with another glass of apple cider vinegar.

It was now time to get changed for my weekly date with the gym. Over the last three months I’ve been working out to the thumping sounds and vision of the Flava TV channel. I had hinted to the trainer that Bing Crosby’s hits from the 30’s would be much nicer for me, but was met with…”Who?”

I normally get in about a one hour circuit training session of anaerobic exercises on the many different types of inventive torture equipment contained therein. However today it was not to be. The trainer had a new intake of hopefuls about 15 of them. He announced, "Today we will all exercise in the main dance studio and concentrate on aerobic exercises".

Oh well it made a change and was so much gentler on the muscles. I felt sorry for the newbies who would be using muscles they never even knew they had. Now that will hurt for about a week, but none of them would realise it until the following day. Exercise session over I felt really invigorated.

I met my dietitian at the end of the gym session and had an interesting conversation about my LCHF diet. She asked me if I really thought eating saturated fat was good for me. To which I replied “Yes about 75 to 120 grams every day, but very carb restricted”. She thought I had lost my marbles and asked me if I knew what it would do to my cholesterol levels. I explained I had just had a blood test and would find out on the 13th when I see my doctor.

I could tell by the look on her face, she was wondering if I would make it through to next week. She wanted to discuss my diet further, but said it will have to wait until next week as her time today was very limited.

I drove home feeling smug that in spite of ignoring her well founded dietary advice that in three months I had dropped 11.8 Kg (26lbs).

I arrived home just in time for dinner, served up piping hot by Lulu Lowcarb. I chuckled to myself thinking should I ask for half a pack of lard as a side dish.

Love it! Sounds like you're really enjoying your retirement. How many cats and kittens have you got?

At the moment I care for six. The most I have had at an one time was ten. They were all strays. When Patches turned out to be pregnant my kitty count went up to 10 . I don't actively go out to rescue cats. They just seem to adopt me. Lulu Lowcarb and I cannot bare to see an animal in distress. Kitties are territorial and with six patrolling the perimeter of my/their garden they tend to chase off other would be feline boarders. By the way your suggestion to view www,dietdoctor.com was right on the money. A brilliant web site. I fully support everything that Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt is doing and saying. It certainly is working for me. :)
