Windlepoones's Journal, 07 Sep 16

The day started well, up at 07:30am. I was the first awake, stumbled down to the kitchen, put the kettle on, fed the cats and noting the time, hopped on the cross-trainer. Ten minutes later I climbed off the trainer panting and felt my heart thumping away, telling me I had got into the cardio zone. The tea had brewed, the cats had eaten and were all staring at me from the lounge completely bemused about what I was doing to myself.
Tickling the cats behind their ear’s and rubbing their tums they were purring in unison and happy that the strange noise of the cross trainer was no longer pervading their world.

The kitties tolerate me. Thousands of years ago the ancient Egyptians regarded them as gods and kitties have never forgotten it.

Moments later I was back in the bedroom awakening Lulu Lowcarb from her slumber by tinkling a spoon in the cup. Stirring from her dreams she said, “Mmmm thank you. You know that nice dinner we had last night?” I cautiously replied in the affirmative, knowing I was about to be sucker punched. She continued, “The roast was too big for one meal so I made you another Sunday dinner, all ready to be eaten to night. All I ask is you accompany me to Kings Street in Hammersmith, there is a shop or two I need to visit.”

Like most men I hate shopping, but faced with a beaming innocent smile and on the promise of a mouth-watering once in a while munching binge, I melted like the proverbial chocolate fire guard.

It was a nice warm and sunny day, what could go wrong? Using both the Metropolitan and the Hammersmith and city lines we travelled in air conditioned luxury on Transport for London’s latest rolling stock. About 30 minutes later we emerged from the station into what is the beginning of King Street a one mile long street filled on both sides with shops, malls, pubs, cafes and restaurants.

After a couple of hours of trailing along and being introduce to a few checkout operators as Lulu Lowcarb’s flexible friend. I suggested we drop into one of the pubs for refreshment. This was all part of my pre-planned exit strategy. We made a bee line for the “William Morris” a Wetherspoon’s pub very close to the station.

A delicious pint of London Pride for me and a glass of Pinot Grigio for “her who must be obeyed” we were back on the train heading for home.

Arriving home we quickly decanted onto the sun drenched south facing patio. While I raised the sun parasol and put out the dining furniture’s seating cushions, Lulu demonstrated her skills as a barista, producing a jug of Pimm’s number one and two long pint glasses, she had put in the fridge to marinate in the slices of fruit two days ago. It was so delicious we had to have another.

While she was prepping the next I started up the lawn mower and gave the lawn it’s weekly cut. The kitties hate the mechanical noise the petrol driven mower makes with a vengeance; all barring one ran to hide in the bushes at the end of the garden. Patches the mother of the brood just hopped up on the nearest sun lounger and watched me mowing up and down, then down and up repeated several times.

Putting the mower away I plonked myself down at the dining table adjusting the parasol so we wouldn’t be blinded by the sun which was now lower in the sky, all just in time for the promised dinner and another pint of Pimms.

The kitties crept tentatively back onto the lawn and patio, no doubt enticed by the aroma of our diners. Only one was bold enough to ignore the kitty food and schmooze for tid bits, Fagin.!

Ahhh September, all too soon the sun was setting so we left the kitties to their evening fun and games with the local wild life, while we retired indoors for a cup of tea or two.

I hate to think what two days of not being on my diet has done, (Thinks mullered) but know I will find out at tomorrow’s weigh in.
:o)

What a wonderful journal, Windle! I wish I could write like that - you described your day so well, I could picture it all perfectly. I think you deserved some treats after all that shopping too :)

Thanks Doobs. I am somewhat hungover this AM, but I am hoping my gym time this afternoon will help. ;)
