Anyone else tired of silly commercials insulting our intelligence?
People who bought an exercise machine (and used it everyday), did a workout program everyday or went on a weight loss program (and stuck to it) losing weight??? Duh! (I'd rather donate my money to help a cause)

Some of them are so bad, I have to wonder if they really think they "sell." But it just occurred to me, maybe they do that on purpose because it gets our attention - maybe even more so - when it is insulting.

I saw a commercial for an ab belt slenderizer in the early am when they put those infommercials on for those of us just up too darn early. The two people wearing them were lean as ever. The woman looked like she was anorexic and I found myself thinking eat a dam hamburger woman who are you trying to fool. Not us average people who have some meat on our bones. Once again insult the intelligence of the average joe.

Right? Those women didn't get thin using it. Even when they show the weight loss, the people are compensated for claiming its due to the product, not anything they did. Hugh?

How about this for advertising? Atkins trail mix bar size 40g has 13g net carbs - Isn't Atkins supposed to be low carb? That bar is one third carbs! How does that work out?

Penlan, did you minus the sugars? I think that's how they show their products lower, by minus-ing the fiber AND sugars...

I had one yesterday Penlan...13g net is correct. I guess they are saying the type of sugars you eat play a role even with that many carbs. Not sure either...

I do an Atkins type program and use some Atkins products but you have to be very careful with their bars and candies because of the alcohol sugars people respond differently to them. Yes I do get really tired of all those commercials too. If they worked there wouldn't be any overweight people. I really get tired of Nutri Systems and Jenny Creig. Yes you can loose weight on them but someday you have to eat real food again.

RcKc - I quoted the figures from FS, net carbs as in total carbs less fibre. I just find it odd that the Atkins (new) foundation are selling products which seems to be hugely at odds with the premise of a low carb approach! Whether it is sugar or other carb, a product with 30% net carbs is (to me) just plain wrong for low carb. If Atkins is promoting misleading 'headline' figures by taking out sugar from the net carbs it's even worse. I have never seen an Atkins bar, or advert, so have no idea. The Atkins name and brand is known, and trusted by some, especially on a low carb diet. It's all too easy to make presumptions that Atkins will sell products which conform to low carb eating, believe any advertising, and not look at the actual figures. That is clearly not the case and as spurious advertising as FloridaAngel's original thoughts here :) Addie Aline - A friend of mine had an interesting result after eating a bag of no sugar lemon drops. She was unable to leave the house for a day... Ah, sugar alcohols! Now she saves a pack in case she gets bunged up :D I always eat real food from the get go, apart from anything else it's WAY cheaper, and I know what's in it. we all should eat real food every day!!

At best all the products that substitute less sugar or less carb versions of junk foods can be a crutch while a person transitions to better eating. At worst they just keep a person in the mindset that they can keep eating junk without repercussions. They reinforce the habit.

it tells you on the package, over consuming will cause a laxative effect. so if the serving size is 3 don't eat 4 or more, you'll be soooorrry.

I'm sorry if I eat any amount of sugar alcohols. OH, the gas!

I agree Addie, plus with Nutri system, Jenny Craig, WW, etc it costs about $200 to lose ONE POUND! And yea, Atkins isn't about health, its about money, it all is...

Oprah is a billionaire that owns tons of stock in Weight Watchers, every time I see her commercial I feel sick! Corporate Greed is all it is.

I don't eat the Atkins products as they are too spendy for me. I just remembered seeing on here about subtracting sugar alcohols. I didnt understand completely and so avoid any sugars

I Cant stand all the prescription drug Commercials !! I have to mute them or it just gets my blood boiling . Lets just get everyone on drugs so that BIG PHARMA can profit. Lets not get to the root of the problem and maybe heal people from Health issues . Its so frustrating !!!!

@Tamarah Jo - Just think how your doctor might respond if you were to ask - as suggested in these commercials - if _______ was "right for you." "Well, doctor, if Celebrex isn't right for me, what about Zoloft or maybe Invokana?" I'm not in favor of treating with drugs but sometimes people are not willing to do the work and take the time it takes to heal themselves and want the shortcut. It's both doctors and patients - though sometimes patients just don't know any better.

If a diet program sells products it's probably best to find a different program. One reason I've avoided the temptation to chronicle my weight loss journey into a book or plan is because there is already a saturation of good information freely available online and enough of them are so well done that it would be pointless to add my voice to the chorus. Advertising is effective because most people don't actively filter the garbage they hear.

I do agree , but Patients put to much trust in everything a Doctor tells them, as they should that's what we are taught,, why wouldn't you trust your Dr is telling the truth . ! But Doctors don't always tell the truth,, or get to the root of the problem,, because they are taught to prescribe Drugs !!! hence,, BIG PHARMA ! Not all Drs are untruthful ,, they just don't know the truth themselves . there may be some on here and I know there are good ones out there but some are untruthful and lazy .

The diet industry is a billion dollar a year industry we just have to figure out how to get in on it. Everyone is looking for that magic pill or exercise and they don't realize it isn't going to happen overnight/ There are no magic pills or exercise it takes you to lose the weight and tone your body.

I agree, and Tamarah the drug commercials? Millionaires (on golf courses) are now the drug pushers, its despicable. And now they tell people they need an anti depressant on top of their current one to "help" it work better? I'm feel the Bern!
