I've gotten a couple of requests about the website I read to work out appropriate percentages of fat, carbs and protein to include in my food intake (refuse to say diet because I’m not on a diet really. I’m just more aware of what foods I should eat if I want to feel my best.). The website is from the MayoClinic (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/healthy-diet/NU00200) and I found it to be quite helpful because while I was watching my calories I had no idea if I was eating the right ones. Mayo Clinic suggests the following based on a 2,000-calorie diet:
• Protein: 50-175 grams
• Fat: 44-78 grams
• Saturated fat: 0-50 grams
• Carbohydrate: 225-375 grams
• Fibre: 30-38 grams

OK, so now I’m going to geek out.

My RDI is 1,800 so that means I can have 90% of those grams. I worked that out by dividing my RDI by 2000. 1800/2000=0.9. So because I’m lazy I put that in a spreadsheet and worked out that my food intake should include the following:
• Protein: 45-157.5 grams
• Fat: 39.6-70.2 grams
• Saturated fat: 0-45 grams
• Carbohydrate: 202.5-337.5 grams
• Fibre: 27-34.2 grams

Hope that helps some of you folks. Happy eating!
