Steven Lloyd's Journal, 19 Apr 19

Sooo, warning...let me please brag a little.

Today I went out for a HIIT workout on a short (1:13 hr) bike ride to do both a workout and compare myself to other bikers by challenging a few competitive, local Strava Segments.

My goal was to bag two of them which I thought was pretty doable as my current power numbers are in good shape and matched up well with the segment leaders. In the end I managed to post five King Of the Mountain (KOM) times on Strava today, three of which I was just hoping to post a top 10 result from my efforts.

I am still grinning, feels very good...those long hard hours on my trainer, in my basement over the winter, have paid off!

Note: Apologies for poor quality pics as they are screenshots; the First screenshot only lists the top three "achievements" with a link button to push to list the rest of the segments rode. Second screenshot lists all the segments rode and the five segments that I posted KOM times on.

Hard to see from the second picture but the First segment "Ross Climb" was the most surprising as the fellow that held it is a great biker and about 35 pounds lighter than me...the fifth one down, "Spruce to Allen Pathway" was almost equally surprising as it was held by a strong triathlete...and I missed a light on that segment which cost me about 13 seconds.

My max wattage and endurance numbers are presently at an all time high, I'm almost 59, riding against hardcore very trained athletic guys in their twenties and thirties, even sponsered racers and highly ranked amateurs. Shout out to Mike (Wannabhealthier), he really helped motivate me to buy the first road bike (and try Zwift).....#addicted.

Hi JF, I'm a bit older but no wiser 😉...thanks Mom and GG, it was a nice suprise seeing the results after the ride. Yup Mike (WBH), all those Zwift trainng kms, plus the climbing and big rides in Kona have made the hills here at home look and feel pretty small.
