Well my weight has gone up again but I'm not recording it yet (partly because I know some is cyclic fluctuations, and partly to give myself a chance to turn the tide)

Instead, I'll focus on a couple of positives, I met someone who hasn't seen me for quite a long time, and they said I looked amazing - well I have to agree of course, (I just do - but looks can be deceiving)

But even more useful than that in the 'get a grip, don't lose what you've achieved' motivation pile, today I got a chance to confirm what I suspected, I fit in a swing without getting hurt by the chains!!! That was really lovely and (dare I say it? sure I do!) joyous. Because, of course, once I confirmed that then I got to enjoy being on the swing and it sure felt like victory.

So it isn't that I'm ignoring the scales, they're telling me something very important, but weight loss or maintenance or even gain isn't really about the numbers - in the end it is all about what we can or can't do.
I really think I want to remain in the 'can enjoy using a swing' and 'can try and learn cartwheels' category.

I've got to work with myself about how I do that - I'm not making unhealthy food my friend or expecting it to solve or hide something, that's a positive - but what seems to be happening is not just in food but in everything I'm having trouble thinking, trouble deciding, trouble remembering, trouble caring even, and sometimes complete dysfunctional absence of thought - some of my bad food choices are allowed 'balanced eating' but it keeps going off balance for those other reasons... never mind, I've already picked my method - trust myself (that's a method), eat healthy foods as often as possible (reduce the physical 'feed me' signals that could end up getting fed incorrectly), increase the exercise (or at least, consider it).. it's a version of 'change what you can change and accept the rest'.

What I won't be doing is making myself unhappy over it, or adding anything challenging as I have enough other sorts of situations helping me to both of those outcomes right now. Using a swing is quite good exercise, and that's quite a poetic truth, which means I may well keep it in mind.

Not to worry, this weight gain has been pre-approved and will be corrected at some time in the future, without a doubt.

When my eldest daughter was going to be ten she wanted to design and make her own cake (being a fan of choccywocckydoodah, cake-boss and the like) so I let her - it was a magical garden.

My youngest daughter wanted ever since then to do the same thing, to design and make her tenth birthday cake herself. And guys I have to tell you it was just as special and was a polar landscape with penguins igloos and visiting ship! As my oldest daughter (soon to be thirteen) said today, 'it looks like global warming has occurred' - indeed. There is a lot less polar ice and land mass now ;-)

There are only three of us and a whole lotta cake - we've already agreed that if some goes to waste it won't matter and we should just eat what we like of it as long as suitable - but even so, this isn't just any cake.

anyway I'm not really going wild with it, but whenever I have sugar the rest of the day's eating is that much harder to regulate, so I'm going to focus on how confident I feel that this is just a scenic diversion, destination 140lb is still going to happen eventually.

There was a little trend upwards since my last weigh-in, which combined with a few other +weight reasons ended up showing me even a 156.00 (but I only took 2lb of it seriously, as I knew some of it was poor eating and some of it was not) - anyway happily I am seeing 152.5 again and the most effective short-rein was to tell myself that never mind how relaxed I may be about eating lately, I was darn well going to 'eat to plan' for 2 days just to prove that I hadn't forgotten how.

Now as I don't actually have a 'plan' in the usual sense, it just meant absolutely no unplanned eating. Whatever I wanted for approved breakfast, whatever I wanted for approved morning snack, approved lunch, approved afternoon snack, approved supper and approved evening snack.
Approved was going to mean for these purposes anything I've been successful eating previously (by now I have a wide repertoire of tried-tested-trusted meals and snacks)
but nothing extra.

I continue to not be that bothered about whether I'm losing weight but I'm going to keep being careful about trying not to put too much weight back on. It was probably useful to test the 'short rein', right?
