Windlepoones's Journal, 14 Mar 17

Thanks for your support folks. I have not been on FS for a while now, a combination of two things. Lulu Lowcarb is taking her turn to stay with her Mum in Kent. Caring for her while she battles with cancer. The current prognosis is good, but while she undergoes further chemo, she has good and bad days.

While Lulu is away I am cooking for myself – sometimes I get a bit creative, but using the mobile app of FS I try to keep within my max calorie intake. That said my son came to visit on Sunday, we were going to go for a Sunday pub dinner and some bevy’s, but he noticed I had a new DVD he hadn’t seen and fancied staying in to watch that while we munched. He popped out to get a take away, but returned with four Tesco’s pepperoni pizzas – yup two each. I thought opps this is going to wreck my diet and be a massive carb blast. It was but seemed to have little effect on my weight, probably because I am going through a very active time.

Last week I helped a friend move furniture house to house. Then there was the two hour gym session and alternate days in the week I am doing some serious spring cleaning. By that I don’t mean polishing and vacuuming, I don’t count that. The most time consuming of my activities is cleaning moss from the roof of my house, teetering atop a 20 foot ladder scrapping the moss off the roof tiles and cleaning the gutters – oh joy! I have been up and down those ladders so many times I would put fireman Fred to shame. It's a daunting task that's taking ages and so far I have only done the back roof of the house. Its tiring work, but really eats up the calories.

This morning I was awoken by my boss cat Rio at 04:00am he had jumped on my bed, was meowing and padding on me. Opening one eye and noticing the time I thought he just wanted petting. He eventually calmed down and we both fell back to sleep.

In the morning at 07:00am I went down to the kitchen and found why Rio had got so excited. A foreign cat had actually split the, (Locked) cat flap door in two wrenched it off its hinges and left it in the middle of the kitchen floor. Having gained entry it ate everything it could find. My kitty’s three feeding bowls were not just empty they had all been licked clean. My own kitties were milling around me as if to say, “Where were you in our moment of need, we sent our spokesman and the pair of you just went to sleep”.

I think I know the cat that’s done the damage it belongs to my neighbour who is moving house. He is trying to encourage his cats to his new house, across a busy road; it’s only about 500 yards away, but the problem is its disorientating for them and they keep going back to their old house. Of course there is no food there so they go on the prowl. I believe it’s the one he calls Orio. Orio is a nicely marked mainly black adult cat with white paws, but is a bit of a bruiser. Well the jury is still out on who the culprit is, but for his massive effort and breaking my cat flap I think I’ll call him Hercules.

I have a doctor’s appointment later today to discuss the results of my latest blood test. I know that’s going to be a lively conversation, because I have already looked up the results online. I predict her focus will be on cholesterol. I’ll let you in on how it goes.

By the way on my latest weigh in my progress line turned blue, the first time I have seen that. Anyone know what it means?

The photo is of Rio if you look closely you can see why we called him Rio. His name is spelled out in his fur. Remarkably it is the same on both his flanks.

The Blue line is extra good news - it's that you're pretty much at your goal weight. But you knew that and were just fishing for compliments, weren't you :P Good luck at the Doc - Cholesterol's a difficult one to sort. It's not readily attributable to diet either - my very fit and vegetarian brother who rarely drinks has shocking figures compared with mine. Take care and best wishes to you all

I love the story of the cat burgler! My cat, in his younger days, broke out of his cat flap a couple of times in the middle of the night. Your Rio is gorgeous and as he had his name stamped all over him, you couldn't have called him anything else, could you - lol! Do be careful up on that roof, Windle. We came back from holiday to find a tile and a supporting brick had come off of ours.
