Boy, am I feeling yesterday's workout! Yowza!
I had a busy morning at work today, and was really hungry by the time I finished. The thought of coming home and cooking while that hungry didn't appeal, so I stopped at a local restaurant that I know makes everything from fresh. It was closed. (More on that later!)
So, I opted for the Chinese buffet up the street. I have always said it's possible to find LCHF options at just about any eatery, but this one was pretty challenging! Almost everything is breaded, and the few items that aren't are in sauces I know are thickened with cornstarch. But I knew the buffet offers salad items, hard boiled eggs and hot&sour soup, so I figured
I could make a meal. I got chicken and broccoli, pepper beef, lettuce, and ranch dressing. I also picked up a chicken-on-a-stick that looked safe, but one bite told me that was breaded, too, so I set it aside. Yeah, both the meat sauces were thickened with cornstarch, but I figured the amount would be within my macros for the day. When I logged everything (close as I can figure), I was pleasantly surprised! Good protein, way under on carbs, nice fat. YAY!
So back to the first restaurant...when I got home, I googled it to see if they had changed their hours, and was shocked to find it's permanently closed. Seems one of the managers has been accused of killing his wife in June! He's in jail, and their eight (!) children are in the custody of the grandparents. The restaurant is (was?) owned by the father of the accused, and was co-managed by his brother. They had just started remodeling the place, and the food was great. So sad!
Crazy times.

That is am insane story. Poor kids! Oh boy, when I read Chinese, I thought, OH NO! you did well! I've been looking up recipes and all the glazes have some sort of sugar. Bummer. I'm be able to add it in a few month in moderation ! I LOVE SALAD BARS! Home salads never are as good like you said! Do your arms feel like lead weights? At least you know your putting in the work!

Way to go on the Chinese!

@Lizzy, fortunately, my arms are in good shape because of the work I do, but I did a lot of core-strengthening exercises, squats and triceps pushups, and my rib cage muscles are telling me about it! Ha! You can make your own glazes keto-style really easily. The hardest thing is thickening them, but there are ways (xanthan gum and glucomannan powder). Usually, I don't bother. I don't mind a runny sauce. But I can fit a teaspoon of cornstarch here and there into my daily macros if I have to.

Good job on the Chinese! I love Chinese but even the ones that say "no MSG" often put something in the food that keeps me awake well into the night. I'm trying to figure out how to eat some stuff out, but do love the salad bars, too. You really worked yourself yesterday, I know you must be excited about your progress.

@Sue,MSG is another one of those much maligned, falsely accused substances. Glutamate is found naturally in many foods, and is the taste of 'umami'. The "Chinese restaurant syndrome" has been found to be from rice kept at room temperature, then reheated. A certain bacterium proliferates in the steam table temps, causing the effects attributed to MSG in the food. I use MSG frequently in my own cooking, with no ill effects....to me, or to others. Chinese is carb loaded, and the sugars (breading, rice, etc) will keep anyone awake!

I had a double meat cheeseburger and a large order of french fries with the wife yesterday. The burger by itself isn't too bad, just the bun and if you limit yourself to that one meal that day it won't cause too much damage, but add the fries and ketchup and it was a pretty awful splurge. I've been doing that a couple of times a month the last two months, those are some awesome burgers. Mindful indulgences spaced out should be safe in maintenance.

Working out is tough to do, but worth it. Congrats on that!

I love my pool time, Warren......just coordinating it with the neighbors' schedule gets dicey. I can use the pool when they're not home.

Swimming is great, especially if you learn to swim correctly, and have access to a large pool. I took a swim class, and would do lengthy workouts.
