mskestrela's Journal, 18 Aug 16

It must be the hot weather that has me craving salads. Well, that and the nutrients in the greens. I took a course back in the 80's called, "Thin Within", that dealt with the emotional issues of being overweight, and taught me how to listen to my body. One week, the 'homework' was to really tune in to what my body was asking for, and just eat whatever it was. I ate oysters on the half shell for 4 days, straight! LOL. I didn't lose a lot of weight on the program, but I did take away a better understanding of my relationship with my body and food. Now that I've started listening again, and have a food plan that actually works, I'm very happy, and so is my body.
Yesterday, I had the busiest day at work that I've had in at least a year. I'm so glad I scheduled a lunch break! I got a BBQ-Ranch salad with grilled chicken from Wendy's, had them leave off the BBQ sauce, and switched regular ranch dressing for the BBQ ranch (lower carbs). It was pretty good, but the chicken had a faint disinfectant flavor to it. :P As usual, I was only able to eat half of it. I think I'm glad I didn't eat more, because later in the afternoon, my gut was distinctly uneasy, and that lasted until I went to bed.
I'm off work today, so it's a pool day.
Have a great Thursday, buddies!
~Kes

I would eat at Wendy's a lot when I was working. I enjoyed their food. Oysters, I really love, but usually am reduced to canned oysters at the 99 Cent store. I once called a place that harvests them in Texas, but they don't ship them. They spoil too easy.

Spring and summer I start craving veggies, fruit, and raw food. I think it is the heat and the lack of good produce over the winter. As for fish and shell-fish and seafood in general, we have a place called Absolutely Fresh Seafood that gets shipments flowing in every morning from the coasts. This is why the prices are a little high, but being from the Pacific Northwest and now living in Nebraska, it is the only way to get good seafood.

I notice that I want salads when my caloric intake has been higher. Like my body still wants to eat (after monthly cycle) but just the week before I was eating heavier, creamer sorts of foods!

My sister-in-law is a NYC high end caterer. They always come up the day after Christmas for 'Boxing Day' family feast. For years she brought oysters and baked them into the most delicious breaded baked oysters. One year the whole gallon of of fresh oysters was a little off. She took a gallon of oysters down to the river's edge and dumped it out. Oh, what a sad waste! So, disappointing! Kes, I have pool day envy!

I've been mostly avoiding fast food, but on busy days at work, I make the best choices I can. @Warren, thanks for reminding me about canned smoked oysters! I have a couple of cans in the pantry at all times. I think I'll make some flax crackers this afternoon, and have them on hand to take to work with a can of oysters!

@Kristy, It's tough being landlocked after having had easy access to the bounty of the ocean. Been there myself. Now I live less than 20 miles from the coast, and have all the fresh seafood I could dream of. 12 days until oyster season reopens!

Interesting observation, @Cherrie! I seem to be having the opposite effect..when I have salad, I want to eat all day the rest of the day!

@Erika, tossing a whole gallon of oysters is heartbreaking! I can't even imagine... The pool was glorious! I had a wonderful workout, spent some nice time just floating in the sun, and feel so good! Are you getting your strength back?

Thanks MsKes. Well, you know I'm doing a fat fast; Day 4. So, I'm losing weight fast -over a pound a day. So, it's a little hard to tell the cause, but I'm still a little under powered. Doing OK though, and glad to have the time off work to do this fast. Next week, I have a scheduled vacation week. Then I hope to be good to go.

Your oyster story reminds me that several years back, pre-regulation days, our Fairy God Mother would send us a gallon of fresh oysters on Christmas Eve via first class...we'd go to the airport and pick up Mr. Oyster from the arrival gate....those were the days!

There's something very luxurious about a gallon of Oysters! mmmmm...... My chef SIL tosses them with finely chopped onions, garlic, parsley, cilantro, bread crumbs and butter and bakes it: creamy under and crusty on top and Oh so delicious!

Kes!!! I got the goodies! Thank you very much...so yummy! Funny that you would post about salads because I got hungry today and that is exactly what I wanted! Just finished a big one with chicken, olives and petite kosher dills...was craving salt too so the crunchy salty toppings went with real well!

Mmmm. Strawberries. I can't believe I used to put sugar on them. So sweet all by themselves.

Your body felt like oysters for a whole week! Bahhhh! I wonder what that meant "within" you😁😁 I love fish too, I wonder if any here is fresh like you get. Everything I saw today at the market said from Taiwan or one of those countries. How tomorrow is not so crazy. His job on the salad, even though it was a little off. I

That made no sense, I wonder if there is any fresh fish here (that doesn't cost a TON)

Oysters are the food highest in zinc, maybe she was deficient.

Sorry I meant my comment made no sense LOL. Hey Erika, ya maybe zinc, interesting! I don't know I've ever had oysters!
