LadyinDenim's Journal, 06 Aug 16

So, went to the doctor yesterday. It was a good experience. I was fasting and she drew lipids, CRP, D levels, thyroid function tests, copper, zinc, a basic metabolic panel, and a urine test. Everything was good, but my BP was a little high at 128/90.

Am going back in three weeks. Meanwhile, she wants me to walk 15 minutes a day and start fish oil and magnesium supplements.

Then, on the way home, I bought some junk food and had a 3,000 calorie binge. It was an impulsive decision, and I didn't want to deal with the anxiety of staying strong, if that makes sense. I wanted to eat it and manage the regret later. I used to do this all the time, but, now, it just sort of makes me feel physically ill. Like, I wonder how messed up my body was that it didn't make me feel sick BEFORE?

Am headachey right now, but ready to start cooking for that family event I should have said "no" to. Am not doing this anymore. I hope that sometime between now and 1:00 p.m. I can summon up feelings of love and sharing to replace this resentment.

So, now that I ate garbage myself, I am OK making my tried and true recipes that all contain sugar. Down the road are ketogenic recipes, xylitol, and coconut flour. Today is BBQ ribs, broccoli salad, corn bread, cheeseburgers, veggie sticks, water, and Blue Sky soda. Plus beans, brownies, pasta salad, spaghetti bake, and fresh fruit. And bottled water.

***********

Some test results are back. I am Vitamin D deficient. My potassium is below normal. HDL is low. My CRP is in the high risk range for cardiovascular disease.

Stressing and berating yourself isn't helpful. Think of your calorie intake in the long term. If you fasted with 0 calories the day before your average was 1500 over the 2 days. You're doing great. The food sounds yummy.

If I may ask, why the fish oil and magnesium supplements and not the actual foods that contain these ?

Isn't it amazing what our bodies will adapt to? I haven't had any 'real' sugar in over 4 months. I wonder how my body would react if I ate a donut right now? LOL I hope you can enjoy the day and all the work you're putting into the meal.

Family gatherings are always a conflict for me as well. We want to eat celebratory food and feel 'normal' and yet that blows the diet and all the hard work we've put into losing weight. It just is a conflict. If you stick with your WOE, then you're not really participating, and if you let it go you feel like a sell out and you pay the price by gaining weight and losing momentum on the diet. The question is, I guess, how to negotiate it without blaming yourself for the inherent conflict. I'm sending you support. Love your family and yourself. In our culture, sugar expresses love; that's what's messed up.

Look toward the end game. I changed my eating habits and started exercising. I'm 55 and have been pre-hypertension for 10 years, now my blood pressure is 104/68 and my resting heart rate is 47. All my health indicators have improved unbelievably. It took me 3 years to get where I am. Stick with it and witness amazing things.

Glad your tests came out so good. You are getting healthier. After the weekend you'll regroup.

I'm sorry you had a hard time, but you're doing the right thing by letting it go and looking towards the future.

I guess in the beginning we start eating the junk a little at a time until we're living on the stuff. You detoxed and then OD'd on the stuff. Doubt you'll do that again any time too soon. I'm glad the blood work is looking good. Once you get through the stress of the party you'll probably get back to eating right again. Good luck, take care of yourself.
