mskestrela's Journal, 16 Nov 17

I spent the better part of an hour concocting what sounded like an awesome soup, Chinese style. When it was done, I tasted it, and it was pretty much, "Meh". I couldn't eat it, didn't want it, and ended up throwing it away. One of the downsides of ketosis *for me* is that the mere act of cooking seems to satiate my appetite.
They say that you eat with your eyes first. It seems like I eat with my eyes *only*.
So, now it feels like I have to continue my journey eating out, or I'll just stop eating. The big problem with that is that I live in "Da Souf", and everything is Southern Fried something-or-other. Still working out the balance here.
On another note, I had found some great peeled garlic in a bag in the refrigerated section of one of the stores I frequent. It's a great go-to for meal prep, especially with my Pampered Chef garlic slicer. But I forgot where I got it last time, and haven't been able to find it for over a month. So this week, I visited our new (giant!) Sam's Club, and I found the garlic again. Woohoo! Unfortunately, it came in only a 3 lb bag. That's a s##tload of fresh garlic, my friends! And even in the refrigerator, it's not going to last very long. I researched, and found that it can be frozen, so I spent the afternoon portioning it into snack bags of 6-10 cloves, then vacuum sealing multiple bags for the freezer. It will be interesting to see how they fare.
The main reason I went to Sam's was to get a side of fresh salmon. The ex (who recently replaced my headlights at his own expense) really loves my way of making cured salmon (Lox). So to repay him for his act of kindness, I decided to make him a big batch. It has one more day in the fridge, then it will be ready to slice and give to him.
It's hard to believe that the year is speeding to a close. The holidays are upon us, pumpkin spice every-f##king-thing is everywhere, and I just now got used to writing 2017 on my documents! Is it just me???
Have a great weekend, my friends.

I always have frozen garlic and ginger in the freezer. Ginger chicken. So good. He will love the salmon. That's nice of you...

Not at all, Pumpkin Spice is a weakness of my also. It has been a long 2017 that seems to have flown by (if that makes sense). Best wishes for success through Pumpkin Spice Season!!!

Thanks for the support - I needed it today - it's funny you talk about soup - I was making chicken and broccli - rotisserie - and was bored - I put some salsa in , mushrooms and this season salti I get from dollar store - shrimp and chicken season big with a little kick - I also added water for volume - you could have added spaghetti sauce - can't find any without sugar - it was good - soups are great - sirloin with miontrose seasoning and onion or burger in onion soup - oh boy - also I don't know if gumbo or jambalaya is one without rice but that one - thanks again /

Why did you throw it away, Kes? Often meals taste even better the next day when the flavours have mingled and you might have wanted to eat it because you hadn't been standing there cooking. I would try that next time. Have a brill weekend 🙂

I didn't really write the date often last year, but I kept writing 2017 in early 2016. There were so many scribbles, were I'd realize my error half way into making it. But, mileage on this sort of think definitely varies! My roommate signed a date sensitive document as having been signed in 2007 earlier this month. :D She didn't even notice when we texted her a picture of her error with "a bit confused this morning?"

don't you hate that when you coddle your cooking, think it's going to be awesome, and it's just meh... or darn right no good. Even a ton of salt won't save it!!! the waste of ingredients, time and energy! Happens, and nice to know it's not just me! lol (misery loves company!) :) have a great weekend!

Thanks guys. I threw it away because it was just unappetizing. The salmon, on the other hand came out just awesome!
