poppycom's Journal, 21 Feb 17

Hi all.. hope you're all doing well, had family issues so haven't been online..

Went back to work yesterday

Good news- everyone was pleased to see me
Phased return to work

Bad news- they've changed my job and I now have to write for 1 morning a week- I haven't been able to write legibly- maybe a couple of sentences for 7 years when I crushed my hands in an accident

Also,I've worked annualised hours fior12 years which enables me to manage my pain e.g. Going in a bit later after a bad nights sleep/ fall or working a shorter day if I've had a lot of standing the day before. Now have to work fixed hours every week and decide hiw to configure my hours.. impossible since I've been off work sick for 11 months , so don't know what I'm physically capable of . I've been in this job for 17 years and it feels like a real kick in the guts.

On annual leave now fir 4 weeks, concentrating on my physio and healthy eating, trying not to comfort eat
Have a successful day fs friends x

Oh Poppy - that's a terrible way to treat someone who has worked for the company for 17 years! I'm not even sure if that's legal as, technically, you are disabled and there are laws to protect you. It might be a good idea to make an appointment with your local Citizen's Advice Bureau or at least give them a call. It sounds to me like they've deliberately changed your job and the flexibility you had before to try to push you out. I'm almost positive that's illegal.

I agree with Doobs. Get legal advice fast as it sounds like they're setting you up to fail. Take care, Poppy!

If it is a right to work state there is nothing you can do. My employer did the same to me after 14 years....I am in Florida. The employer has to keep a job for you - not nessasarly the job you held prior to the leave of absence. Even with a documented disability - they only have to accommodate to a point ☹️

I think the laws are different in the UK, PGM.

Thanks everyone. I work for the NHS, so they really should know better! I know funds are tight and new ways of working are more efficient, but I crushed my hands there in a work accident in 2010, before that I could write and type fine. I always feared this would happen, but didn't expect it now 😔 I've fought so hard to get back to passable health so that u can support my family, knowing that I had a bit of flexibility with my hours when I needed it, otherwise I wouldn't have gone back yet So I've called my union and waiting for advice xx

Can't let them push you out. Speak to your union asap. You cannot work like this.. and you shouldn't. It's not easy being strong at this point in time, but if you don't do it immediately, and accept it you don't have a leg to stand on Act now! Sorry to be so brutal. But it's your life and your job. It makes me angry when clearly this is not of your making 🚹All the best .

Good to hear you're getting the union on your case. If you had a work accident, I hope you got compensation at the time.

Don't make excuses for them, Poppy - savings or no savings needed, they should know better. Don't be a push-over as it's more than just a job at stake, it's your future employment opportunities too (imagine your CV saying why you left the NHS ...). Best of luck and "nil illegitimi carborundum"

the main question is...are they treating you fairly. if the answer is no then off to the union you go. It's their fault that you have to work the way you do and they should be held accountable. problem with nhs is there are too many chiefs and not enough Indians........union rep will say the same. also try ACAS.
