mskestrela's Journal, 08 Feb 17

Yesterday turned into a full 24 hour fast. I think I need to cut back on the MCT oil...it really lubricates the digestive tract! :P There were a couple of times during work that I almost had 'disasterpants'. So, with all the rumbling going on in the nether regions, I wasn't hungry at all.
The ketostix are steadily reading in the moderate range, so I'm back to burning fat. YAY! Interesting discovery about the stix...Supposedly, they only read one of the 3 ketone bodies in urine, acetone. I wondered what would happen if I dipped one in pure acetone, so I did. The expectation is that it would immediately go to the deepest color. Nope! Nothing at all happened. Must be a different kind of acetone?
The weather here in coastal Carolina has been just bizarre! Yesterday, it hit 80F (26.5C). It's supposed the be a little cooler today, but still very warm. Tomorrow night, though, it will be just above freezing. I'm calling this, "The winter that almost wasn't".
Have a great Wednesday, buddies!

Congrats. MCT's can do a number on you if you aren't use to them.

Great job, congrats. Sorry for the near "disaster-pants." At least it wasn't a dark spot on your record. What is MCTs?

MCT oil is a refined coconut oil. It stands for medium chain triglycerides, which is a type of fat. It revs up metabolism and induces ketones, and is used by the Low carb High Fat crowd to enhance the fat-burning ketotic state. And it's used as a meal substitute, as it kills hunger.

One of the most exciting things about MCT oil is the mental/brain acuity aspect. It really does ramp up your energy for the day, but the ongoing research into MCT for brain health is the most exciting.. It's been known for a while that ketone bodies are the brain's favorite food, but adding in MCT oils seems to take it to a whole new level.

I got used to MCT oil and it did not bother me after the first week. I have not been on it lately and need to buy a bottle.

Good morning Kes - how much MCT do you typically use? I have been putting about 1-2 tsps in my coffee with a little heavy cream.

Good drop, Kes! I like to use coconut oil in my cooking. Wish we had your weather. It seems a long winter!

@Frankie, I'm probably overdoing it a bit. I add 2 Tbs to a 20 oz cup of coffee.
