Eating like a normal person for the next three months sounded great in my head but I’m realizing this dirty bulk plan isn’t for me. Only a week in and I’m up 10 pounds, not performing well, heartburn is back after being gone for 2 years, and honestly I don’t like the bulkier appearance. Time to undo the damage before it gets any worse. Looks like I’ll be tracking calories again until I change my game plan.

I'm not sure where the whole "BulK" thing came from, but I don't think it's a good look on anyone. If your body type is lean and cheetah-like, why force it into a gorilla? Harder to run when you're carrying around more mass.

JustBananas- My goal is to put on body weight but of course I want it to be good weight and not fat. It’s a real struggle for me because I want to be a good runner but not have a runners body. I would like to put on about 20 pounds while maintaining 10% body fat. It’s a very challenging thing to achieve but patience seems to be key.

I'm out here in SoCal, where the runners, cyclists and surfers only carry enough weight to do their activity. Hollywood bodies, and lots of lean muscle. Your latest photos show off the hard work you've put in, and it's hard to imagine another 20 lbs. on your frame. Ten pounds in one week would startle anyone, though.

JustBananas - thanks, I appreciate that and couldn’t agree more. The rapid weight gain was a little startling. I just have to come to the realization that it’s a long slow process to hit my goals. There’s no way to rush it and be successful. Still trying to add a few pounds of muscle though.

Why dirty? Do like Superman. A slight surplus. You won't be sluggish then and you'll slowly add strength and mass.

Diablo - that’s what I’m doing now. I was basically doing a dirty bulk because I felt like I needed a mental break and enjoy the holiday season. However, quickly realized I didn’t like how fast the negative aspects were occurring. I’m still eating between 3000 to 4000 calories daily but just being much cleaner with it. It’s worked for me over the last few years, might as well keep it up.

99% of that was water. Don't sweat it, or do! 😁

I am following Tom Venuto. He is a body builder turned nutritionist. He is very lengthy to read but he has a lot of good advise. He believes in whole nutritious food essentially Macro diet. I have lost 10 pounds since I started following his advise and I am getting very lean and loosing fat and building muscle. I actually eat more than I used to when I was restricting my diet. He can help you with wanting to do lean bulking.

You can do it! I know the feeling. Eating “regular” portions just is too much. This is why I invested in a food scale. It takes the guesswork out.

Diablo- Same happened to me last summer. I believe I was also up about 18 pounds in a week on vacation in Panama City. It was a hell of a week though.

Golfmarina - Thanks, I’ll check him out. I’m always looking for new ideas. I like to think I know how to hit my goals but having the patience and finding the motivation is the challenging part.

Stormsgirl - Same here. I use my scale everyday when I’m tracking. I virtually weigh out everything that goes in my mouth. Guess I’m a bit OCD about it.

I am in maintenance and still I prep, weigh, log, all my food. Seems like if I don't and let loose it takes me 3-4 days to get back on track. I just end up frustrated...better for me to stick to a more non processed plan most of the time. I see the results in my muscle mass when I up my protein. It works for me. I hope you find a good balance!💪
