😀 I ate fewer calories yesterday (around 1500) & the results showed up on the scale. We were out most of the afternoon running errands so I didn't have lunch. Hubby mentioned stopping to eat but I didn't respond so we didn't. By the time we got home I decided popcorn & some nibbles would work til dinner time. I made shish kabobs out of smoked turkey sausage, multicolor sweet peppers, multicolor cherry tomatoes & onions & popped them in the oven....Served with brown rice & quinoa. I had half a cookie & a peach Outshine Pop for dessert.
We did end of having some excitement yesterday. Driving home I saw a tiny fawn in the ditch alongside the highway. We were concerned so did a quick turn around to go back & check on it. We didn't see it but came across a truck pulled into an alcove, so we stopped. The guy said he'd helped get it up over the bank & into the woods to join it's mother. Then as we walked up our drive on our afternoon walk we saw a doe a few yards from us on the edge of the woods. She wasn't moving very quickly....then we spotted her fawn trailing along behind her 😊
Today...more wildlife fun....the wrens decided it was time for their babies to leave the nest. We watched as the 3 of them poked their heads out of the birdhouse...then their little bodies....then tried to figure out what to do next. The last 1 hung around til Mom came back & enticed it out...then kept flitting about the deck as if to say...This is how you do it...follow my lead....fly...you have wings! Finally, it seemed to get it & flew off behind Mom.
The cardinals have hatched as well. I saw Mom sitting at the edge of the nest protecting them (I could hear them chirping) when I was close by spraying the flower beds with fertilizer. The leaves are full on the bush & it's really hard to see.
I had a nice conversation with my brother. Yesterday was his Birthday. We talked about how the quarantine has affected us & our lives for the past few months. He told me his 2 girls had joined him & my sister in law for dinner & how he had given both of them big hugs. Then he went on to tell me his friend had lost his 21 year old daughter in a car accident last week. He HAD to hug his girls. My sister in law lost her Mom at the end of last year & has talked about going to see her Dad & sitting outside several feet away so they can talk & visit....& no hugs 😞 When I visited my daughter & grandkids in June I HAD to hug them. My SIL'S Dad is elderly & of course at high risk.
I've started a good book & I'm making my way through it quickly. The Year of Fog by Michelle Richmond....if anyone is looking for a good read.
Hubby & I are looking at booking a short trip in September in Door County. Our friends are going & told us about a place. My Aunt lives about 30 minutes from the Resort & it looks like it could be fun.
My youngest sister also wants to go to Savannah/ Tybee Island for her Birthday in September. Usually we go to Florida but she's changed it up this year. So hopefully travel will be OK by Fall & we can make it happen.
