I want to thank my friends here for all the uplifting words and good suggestions on yesterday's entry. I was grumpy yesterday, and feeling sorry for myself. I finally figured out today that it was because I was (am) switching back to burning ketones instead of glucose. Withdrawal from any addiction is hard, and for this 'wheat-aholic', it's no different. I'm thankful that I've never been big on sweets, so there's no need to withdraw from sugar. But for those who are, or have been addicted to sugar, I feel your pain! I checked today, after being very strict with myself yesterday, and the Keto-Stix are showing a trace of ketones again. And with that, I seem to be regaining my emotional equilibrium. I decided that instead of watching the food porn that makes me resentful, I'd watch videos that move me. So I've spent my computer time today watching inspirational auditions from talent around the world. I swear, I've gone through a whole box of tissues from tears! Maybe I needed a good cry, to get over feeling sorry for myself. LOL! I think it will take 3 more days or so to get back fully in ketosis, and I have made up my mind to tough it out until I get there. Fortunately, I don't tend to suffer from 'keto-flu', so apart from a mild headache, I'm doing alright. One of the things I did with the pork belly my friend gave me was to slice in on my Waring slicer. When I was little, some of my fondest memories was being on my grandparents' farm in Michigan. They raised hogs, and instead of bacon in the mornings, we had something called 'sow belly'. Salted, uncured, unsmoked bacon, basically. I managed to recreate it, and my lunch today took me back to my happy childhood. Thank you all again for giving me the boost I needed, and the subtle kicks in the behind that I deserved! Hugs, ~Kes
