mskestrela's Journal, 05 Mar 17

I feel like I've eaten a ton of food today, but I'm still struggling to reach 1000 Kcal/day. I read the journals of others who have trouble staying under a certain number, and just shake my head and wonder how the heck they can consume that much food in a day. I record everything, and probably overestimate the quantities. For example, if I cook 2 eggs, and only eat one and a little of the other, I record both. I know my stomach has shrunk and probably that my metabolism has lowered, but with this deficit, I should be a stick! And yet, I'm consistently bouncing between 165 and 170 for the last few months.
I can only eat so much in a day... When I prepare a meal, and start eating, I reach a point when another mouthful is just not possible. It's not that my stomach is bulging full, it's just that the appetite center of my brain says, "Okay. we're done". Has anyone else experienced this??
Baffled, I remain,
~Kes

Perhaps you eat really slowly which gives your brain time to register fullness - mindful eating is a handy skill.

i can't figure how you find getting to eating 1000 cal a day difficult. I find it just adds up so quickly.

YES! YES and YES!! I am so happy that you posted this! I think that I am not losing. I brought my diary to the nurse that suggested the Keto diet. She advised me to eat more! I just can't. I do have a low thyroid so I know I have that against me, but when doctors or sorry Nurse Practitioners (out in west Texas) have put me on Thyroid meds it makes my BP drop and I feel so dizzy - even if I'm laying down! It is scary. I'm also going through menopause. I'm in hell. I try to get all of the calories in that she insists that I'm lacking to lose weight, but if you're not hungry? Why eat? I started at 205, I've only lost down to 194 and I put on a pound a day during PMS until I start (if I start!) Then I'll go back down, but it's a vicious cycle that never lets me get below the 11 pounds!! SO FRUSTRATING!!!!

I'd love to be 165, btw! I'm a size 6-8 at that weight!! At age 47, I'm just wanting to be a "healthy" weight - no longer care about being a "hot" weight lol

Fat is very satisfying, and are you eating just one meal per day?

This is just my opinion but I think under the circumstances it is a very bad idea to be recording food that you 'cooked but didn't eat'. A bad idea for you, and a bad idea for anyone else with 'low appetite' to do so.

Have you maybe thought of doing 20:4 or 18:6 rather than 23:1 IF so that you can have two meals a day? That might get you over your 1000 Calories and kick-start the loss again (sometimes a few extra Calories can do that). You might then be able to go back to 23:1 after a few days if that's what you prefer. I hope you find a good solution soon (and the others with this problem). ps - I agree with ARB. Delete it from your food diary or reduce the amount if you didn't eat it. That way if you look back to see what you ate, you won't be over-counting

Maybe you need more exercise? Outdoors if possible.

i often record my food menu a day ahead...as its usually the same ..but then after that day is over..if i dont eat what i journal then i go back in an revise my food journal...that way its correct...i did notice also when i got my calories down to under 1000 for a length of time...the weight just wasnt coming off...but once i raised it up say 300-400 calories..then i got off the maintance part of this journey...but like you...its hard for me to eat alot..im a big frame person with a small stomach...

Thanks for this post! I also find it hard to eat so many calories. I'm trying to eat 1200 a day since the middle of February. I also plan my meals ahead and usually have to delete what I didn't eat or changes because it didn't happen as planned. I can drink coffee and liquids most of the day and wait for hunger to kick in. If I eat breakfast which is almost never, I do notice I get hungry more often during the day. I was once told to eat 6 very small meals a day and when I do, I feel hungry more often. It's a metabolism thing. My tummy is comfortable eating 700 cals a day, but I don't lose weight either. Only when I restrict my carbs to 20grams. I think I'm going to try the frequent small meals again to see if that works. Know just how you feel! Maybe try to include 2 shakes...1 mid morning and 1 mid afternoon to get your metabolism revving up again.

Wow! Thanks for the input everyone! Thanks to FS, I know that when my calorie intake is above 1000/day I do lose weight, as long as I keep the carbs very low. If I am basically fasting 24/7 (under 500 cal/day), I stall and feel like crap. It flies in the face of everything about calorie restriction. I found a great collaboration of international chefs on YouTube, and tried one of their recipes tonight. HOLY WOW! It was so good, with a keto substitution. The recipe called for breaded chicken breasts, so I did it the same way, but with crushed pork rinds for the breading. It was amazing! I will post a new journal with the link for the recipe. I'm SO full right now, and curious to see what the macros look like on it.
