There was a time when I was super thin and never had to worry about what I ate, so I didn't. I was always very active and healthy so therefore I ate whatever I wanted to eat and I LOVE food. I have a taste for international flavors especially if its loaded with spices and heat. I rarely ate fast food or junk food but I did have an addiction to Coke....the soda that is!! I also enjoyed margaritas, champagne, pasta, bread and potatoes way too much. Once I turned 40 it all went downhill. A series of injuries and nursing school kept me from exercising like I was used to and I managed to gain a great deal of weight because I refused to change my eating habits. I would try to diet but it would only last a few weeks and I was right back to eating and drinking whatever I felt like. I recently became very ill and had a number of health issues arise all at once. Like most nurses I put off my health issues because I was so concerned about everyone else.....plus a little denial played a part. Anyway, I finally went to see the Doctor and was diagnosed with Diabetes. I went home that day and vowed that I was going to fix this mess I had made. It was truly a life changing experience. I cleaned out my pantry, refrigerator and freezer and replaced it with foods high in protein, low in carbs. That day I found this website, started the LCHF diet, joined the YMCA, and quit one of my 3 jobs. I put myself on a strict daily schedule/routine which is something I have not had in years due to school and work. Now I am working out, sleeping better, I am eating on a schedule and not sporadically or at odd times and I am feeling great. Three weeks in and I am full of energy, my weight and sugar are dropping and I am more motivated than ever to keep up the lifestyle change.
