mskestrela's Journal, 14 Aug 16

It was a lovely wedding. I was up by 4:30 so I could have coffee, a shower, take care of the neighbors' dogs, and be on the road by 7. I got to wear 2 hats yesterday, because the bride wanted me to do her hair before I married them. Being multi-talented has its benefits! LOL
We got to the beach by 9, and gathered in a gazebo for photos, and to wait for all the guests to show up. It was already 88 degrees, with a clear, impossibly blue sky, 78% humidity, but a nice breeze. *Note to self: next time you agree to do a beach wedding in August, do NOT wear black!!* LAWD, it was hot!
I was fasted since 2 pm the previous day, and the groom's parents showed up with 3 dozen fresh Krispy Kreme donuts. Ack! If they had brought a jug of coffee, I would have been unable to resist, but I was able to graciously refuse partaking.
I was proud of myself for getting through the ceremony with only the slightest break in my voice.
We got to the reception house around 11, where I was able to change into cooler clothes, but it was up to 93 by then, and the activities were all centered in the garden. Hot, sweaty, and all the drinks they had were either sugared, beer, or had pineapple in them (2 sangrias). I'm deathly allergic to pineapple. I stuck to water. I never realized how NOT fun it is to be the sober one in a buzzed crowd.
I thought there would be lunch fairly early, but the ribs and chicken didn't even get on the grill until noon, meaning that there wouldn't be anything to eat until around 3 or 4. I decided to leave early, and came home to cool off.
It was still a very fun day. And as a bonus, my friends who were hosting the reception gifted me a bunch of pasture raised bacon, sausage patties and lard!
Today, I'm dedicated to resting...I hope your Sunday is peaceful, buddies!

I just cooked up a few slices of that pasture-raised bacon. There is a WORLD of difference, y'all! No sulfate or nitrites in the cure, either. Even though you could feel the crystallized salt on the surface, it wasn't too salty, it was perfectly smoked, and it reminded me of the bacon from my grand dad's farm hogs. I may be buying nothing but those products from now on! They also have beef and chickens, so a monthly trip to Sylvania, GA is in my future.

Good going, Phil..your weight drop reflects the choices you made, too! The ceremony and everything were nothing short of organized chaos, reflective of the very free and easy lifestyles of this group of folks. My closest friends, they are half my age. Most have a couple of kids, from infant, through about age 6, and all were in attendance. It was like herding cats! At the house, there were a couple of inflatable pools, a slip-n-slide, and a hose..a dozen kids running wild, dogs playing with them. The food was not their error, it was mine..everyone else had had breakfast..and donuts! I should have thought to take my own snacks/beverages, but I was more concerned with getting the ceremony right and looking good in the pictures. LOL!

Sounds like a great day. I've always thought that Krispy Kreme donuts were too sweet, and that's a lot coming from me. You did a great job avoiding things, good for you! The gift was very thoughtful, I'm glad everything went so well.
