foodfight-nomore's Journal, 07 Jan 16

I've been a bit fed up with hit and miss supply of organic veg in the supermarkets....so did a search and what do you know an organic farm that delivers in the South. I ordered their veg box (less roots) as not a fan of potatoes and boy does it look fantastic and for £18 (includes delivery) I think I have double what I would have got from the supermarket....very happy and it all looks so fresh and yummy! I'll try and get a picture up of what I got a bit later.

I have been try to cut back on my meat intake...which I never thought I would ever consider (having lived the first 30 years of my life in Africa I was brought up on a huge meat diet)....but think I would rather eat less and have a better quality when I do eat it. I already do try to buy local and free range...so might try a few days meat free and see how it goes. I did it on Monday and it was fine - did a lovely stir fry with Japanese noodles and honestly didn't even miss the meat I would normally have added.

I am also going to stop drinking oat milk with my tea and switch to soya milk. I was drinking oat milk thinking it had the highest fibre content...but it seems the soya is better and the soya is higher in fat and lower in carbs than the oat...which I think agrees with my system more. I am wondering whether my sudden drop in weight is linked to me drinking less oat milk as I am also only drinking about three cups of tea with oat milk a day now, compared with about 8...making it less 5 cups of high carb oat milk?

Anyway not going to over think it...just keep doing what I'm doing and hope it continues :)

Hey Jo I've included a pic at a glance, there is cabbage, courgette, carrots, tomatoes, onions, leeks, sweet potato, water cress, brocollie and kale. I have no idea what to do with kale...will need to google lol

Your veggies look more appetizing than any fast food drive-through. Enjoy! BTW - in the States we have Almond Milk. If you can find it you might be pleasantly surprised how good it is.

PS - I don't mind kale chopped and added to regular salad greens. Lots of people put it in their smoothies and some even make kale chips (which I don't like, but to each their own).

Hi Buffy - we do get almond milk here, which I love...but it is really expensive :( Thanks for the kale info - I did wonder if you could eat it raw, will give it a try as I have never tasted it before

Looks delicious, and the seasonal produce means good flavour and nutrition! As the offerings change, it can be fun to try new flavours and recipes as well.

Hey Tracy, i had Kale today in with my pasta, my hubby loves it, it is quite strong in taste, he has it like cabbage but it's too strong for me, when i was pregnant i had some and gagged on it, not sure if it is because the strength of it or my pregnancy, however, i will use it in salads and stir fry, it's right up your street as it is rich in Iron xx

Don't bother with organic veg, studies have show that frozen veg are better for you than fresh or organic. Frozen vegetables can be more nutritious than supposedly fresh supermarket produce, a study has found. Fresh vegetables can lose up to 45 per cent of important nutrients by the time they reach the dinner table. Time spent in storage, in transportation and sitting on the shelves means it can be more than two weeks from the vegetables being picked to being eaten. Jo I just tried it and had a blast from the past...It tastes like a weed I used to eat as a child I think like clovers here lol I think I'll enjoy it :)

Barney45 I couldn't agree with you more about food travelling and losing nutrients...another reason I'm thrilled the produce I'm buying is so "local". I buy organic because it is not covered in chemicals.

Organic Veg that is frozen is far better for you. Don't believe what tabloids tell you, it is just rubbish. None organic foods are sprayed with pesticides that show up clearly in your urine. What the long term effect of these chemicals combined in your body does, is anyone's guess. www.rodalesorganiclife.com /food /what-eating-organic- actually-does- your-body

Remove any spaces in the address given above, as I had to do add the spaces to make the address be seen. After watching the video, tell me if you still think non organic frozen is good for you.

You should also find that organic foods taste stronger than conventional ones. I grow organic and the foods taste far superior to any bought in any shop. There is actually a good taste rather than the bland, or should I say subtle flavours of the supermarket brands.

I couldn't agree with you more Mindfull_Body - I have been eating organic fruit and veg now for over 8 years. Unfortunately, not so much with meat as I can't afford to buy organic all the time....but I am thinking of going organic with meat and eating less of it....
