Hi everyone,

Has anyone tried the potato diet?

It claims that the can lose between 0.5 - 1 lbs a day.

I started it on Monday, I’ll try and update my progress as and when I can, here is what I’ve found so fare.

My weight has been creeping up over the past 2 years and I’ve been stuck between 240 lbs - 237 lbs for s number of months now so it’s time to take action.

I started the diet on Monday, I can only eat boiled, mashed or baked potatoes, between 2 - 5 pounds a day.

I can just about manage to eat 2.5 lbs of potato’s a day at the moment, it’s just so filling, I do put a few drops of chilli or mint sauce on the meal to make it more interesting.

The first few days were ok, the third day I’m starting to get a bit tiered around 9:00 p.m and don’t seem to have much energy to do things.

I had a quick weigh-in Thursday morning and to my surprise I’m already down 2.4 lbs, I’m going to weigh again on Saturday to see if it was just an error.

I’ll keep you all updated on how things go.

Trouble is can you keep it up for the rest of your life. Like all fad diets I have tried, you break after a couple of weeks and then you put the weight back on and plus some. If it was that easy none of us would be posting on here. Also is it really healthy for you? Good luck if it works for you, then so be it 🍀🍀🍀

Goragon I’ve never heard of the potato diet. Certainly new to me! I’m not a big potato fan so would be super “hangry” after a day. I recently completed 8 weeks of the Fast 800 which focuses on eating a Mediterranean diet. Have a look into it, if you find sticking with the “tatties” tough. We all have different things that work for us.

Are you taking a multi vitamin as well? I would worry I wasn’t getting enough nutrients. How long are you doing it for?

If all you’re eating is potatoes I would be concerned about your lack of nutrients. Are you taking supplements? I think the diet would be boring after a while. Certainly not something I’d try lol. Good luck, though! I hope it helps you loss weight. 🍀😘

Personally I think you should stop with it. Only eating one type of food is very unhealthy due to lack of diversity + you'll get sick of same thing over and over again. Speaking of potatoes in diet, one neighbor had to lose a lot of weight so he could have an operation & his doctor told him to cut bread, pasta and potatoes from his diet for a while so he could lose the weight fast enough (he was constantly grumping about it tho & returned them back to his diet after the operation)

Erm Stupid or what, maybe you could just have pure glucose intravenously instead. Carbs convert to 100% glucose in your body, so why would you do it. I suppose you are wanting to get type 2 diabetes, as well as loose weight. I really don't care that the media has run a so called trial with a backup of medical staff on standby, in case of an emergency. You do not have the same support, plus there is a known fact which has been heavily researched by many teams, any fast loss of weight does not work. All participants in all trials have shown that everyone who loses weight fast, puts that weight back on.

Personally speaking I have cut out bread, pasta & potatoes... in fact everything high in carbs. It’s workibg for me. There is no quick fix when it comes to weight loss. Be interesting to see the result of a potato diet though. Not sure my body would approve. So bloating! 😘

I personally wouldn’t go this route but I am low carb diet as they seriously bloat me due to ibs and put weight exactly where I don’t want it 😬 Everyone is different tho but I agree that eating 1 food especially potatoes can’t be good for your body huni. my hubby is ex army so his training and food intake was controlled but healthy and even he says this is not a good way to good to go hun. A balanced diet is always best for your body to keep it healthy. If you are going to do it be mindful of your body and listen to it. Your body will always give you signs of something is not good for you. Good luck but be careful xxxx 😘

Hi everyone. I got a bit fed up a few weeks ago when to my surprise my scale hit 240 lbs. my clothes are tight and it just got me down. I do try and eat healthy but i’ve had lots going on over the past few years and my alcohol consumption has gone out of control. I watched a program on ITV where a woman lost 12 lbs on a potato diet and decided to give it a go, there were other diets on the program but this one seemed prity straight forward. Being a man I can’t stand going shopping for loads of different ingredients, I like simple quick and easy food so this seemed straightforward. All you do is eat mashed boiled or baked potatoes, between 2.5 - 5 pounds a day, you can add spice to them. It claims you can lose between 0.5 - 1 lbs a day. I did eat some fruit and veg every now and then (bananas, apples carrots and melons ) because food did get a bit boring. I did the diet on week days only (Monday - Friday) I ate normal on the weekend. The first week I lost around 5 lbs, the second week I lost 4 lbs. my current weight is 230.5 lbs I didn’t find the diet that difficult, I was never hungry during the week, I found that I slept a lot better than normal. I’m going to carry on with the diet for a bit longer to see if how the weight goes.

Sorry but you do need to be careful and yes I along with many others think it stupid to follow such a diet. Here is a quote about the show.----- The results may look miraculous but there is a catch - the diet could prove to be very bad for you. Crash diets, which promise significant weight loss in a short period of time, are generally disapproved of by doctors because they can be seriously harmful on the body. The show was criticised by a number of viewers for promoting extreme dieting. Extreme dieting that is shown on TV, just to get viewer ratings is not only annoying but has been proven in so many cases not to work over the long term. I wish you luck in loosing the weight, but don't get so desperate as to do yourself harm.

Here are a few more quotes for you. "A diet of just potatoes will be deficient in vitamins A, E and K, the minerals calcium and selenium, essential fatty acids, protein and dietary fibre," nutritionist Fiona Hunter told the BBC. "Although they may provide enough iron for a man, they will not provide enough iron for women." Host of How To Lose Weight Well Dr Xand van Tulleken warned that diets like the potato one could be bad for your health. "Do remember that, although popular, crash dieting is frowned upon by many health professionals for being unbalanced and losing a lot of weight quickly can be dangerous and might not offer long-lasting results."
