Don't be disappointed. That is an excellent loss and your fitness levels will be coming along nicely. Today's a swim day for me. Nothing fancy, just get a good session under my belt to start the week.

Lea - as u exercise create body muscle & weights much more than fat. May see difference in body shape rather than high loss on scales. Keep going, yr body will love u for it.

Thank you Anne, I’m hoping I will see some toning from swimming after about 2 months fingers crossed! I hope your swimming is going well? I guess I’m just frustrated as I have set a goal to lose another 25 lbs by my birthday – 1st June so i don’t want to fall off track. I should be pleased that I have lost and not gained or maintained. Thank you for your comment also Nadoushka 😊 you are always very supportive, I have finally fixed the app so easier for me to respond now! PIndncn I was wondering if it could be muscle but I didn’t think it would build that quickly, I thought that would take time? I also am trying to figure out my TDEE correctly as if that’s wrong then I’m well out on my calories. FS gives you the options sedentary, low active, active and very active. I am 5”8 and now 180lbs, 33 years Am I right to be putting in “Active”? I work in an office but I walk 10,000 steps a day at slow and fast pace and I do swimming for 45 minutes 6 x a week. I do about 20 lengths, according to my watch mainly anaerobic / aerobic and a lower percent at weight control, hardly do any low intensity. If I put “Active” It gives me then a TDEE of 2300 which seems high but I take the 500 off for a deficit, and eat 1800 a day and then obviously I am burning the calories from the walking swimming so I think I add them? Say if I do 600 cal exercise would it be like: 2300 RDI + 600 exercise = 2900 – 1800 (what I eat in a day) = 1,100 deficit? No Idea if I got any of the above right, I used to be able to lose about 3/4lbs a week but now I’m on plateau that I’m worried I have started to work out the maths behind it wrong Any help is greatly appreciated :D

Hi Lea, I had a good enough swim today. Didn't get a good rhythm going but plodded on. Personally, I don't factor in calories from exercise at all. I use exercise for body shape and fitness, not weight loss. My weight loss comes from what I call a 'true calorie deficit' ie my BMR based on being active is 1900. If I eat between 1500-1800 a day I will lose weight.

Hi Anne, I am glad you had a good swim, I am definitely enjoying it as it very good for my depression, you was the person that inspired me to go even though I have a fear of the deep end which can be tricky bit I leave on a good note so I'm in a good place to go back next time :)

Chief, I have lost 34 lbs since July so I have come very far and I am very proud of myself for my achievement. I have not asked how many calories people eat as we all have diffrent metabolisms, medications and diatry requirements, age and size as we are not equal, I simply asked a question of if how I'm working out what I am doing is correct or incorrect, im not after a perfect answer as that's not realistic. I could have a hormone imbalance, I am on mitazipine (which can cause weight gain) it was a sheer thing of am I doing it correctly and have blockers or am I just doing it wrong. Sorry if my post caused you stress, I am asking on behalf of my self not everyone on FS but thank you for your comment which ever way you wished for me to perceive that.

Lea, swimming has kept me sane(ish) over the years. Everything goes out of my head when I am swimming, counting strokes, counting lengths, and dodging other swimmers. I forget all my troubles for that wee while. As for the deep end..........well you can do 20 lengths now so you don't need to even think about it.

I do agree, it has mentally picked me up so much, so much more energy, feel happy and ready for the day. I nearly drowned or felt like it this morning, water went down my nose and couldn't catvh my breath 😞 felt my arms and legs go to jelly and lost all coordination because I was having a panic attack, and had to grab the divider. I was petrified and the longest 30 seconds of my life, I then just stayed in the deep end holding on doing the riding the bike so I was still foing some exercise, lol, did a backstroke back which I'm strongest at rather than the breaststroke then sat in the sauna to sweat the ordeal out lol I've booked to go tomorrow, if I don't face my fear I won't defeat it.

Lea, firstlu big up for how dignified, calm and polite you have been in response to some of the comments, you dealt with what could be read as rudeness far better than I would have. In terms of deficit on the app, if you click on the 3 lines in the corner and then select diet calendar it shows you your net calories for the day (plus or minus). I figure if my net calories are minus then I should be doing ok and will lose weight. I would definitely class you as active from how much you are doing a week!
