heidij123's Journal, 17 Apr 17

Had a good week, and seem to be staying at my lower weight now. Need to keep working at that this week. We are eating out with friends on Wednesday, and I will try to implement my 'eat half' plan! Portions served in restaurants are just too big, so the idea is to eat half of what I'm given. I'm actually trying to cut back on protein a little generally, as I think I'm now eating too much for my bodyweight, so that should help.

It will be an interesting experience, as I'm normally a plate-cleaner! So it's kind of about changing my image of myself in my own head, and possibly as others see me too. I need to go well-prepared mentally! If I can crack this, it will be a big help to staying slim, and quite a relief, actually!

Me too, we were brought up not to waste food. Ask for a doggy bag Heidi, then you can have the second half another day, after all you have paid for it. Well done on keeping it down though, I had my sis and her 9-yr-old staying so slipped slightly on the beer although managed not to have any ice cream.

The size of pub and restaurant meals in the UK is astonishing. And the coffees as well. I went into a Costa while I was back recently and was amazed at the size (and the price) of a medium latte. And like StrangeTrout, I was brought up to eat everything on my plate. Next time I go back, I'll be ordering small servings wherever possible and starters rather than main courses. Sorry for the rant. Best of luck.

ST, I had thought about a doggy bag. I might even take a container along. No worries with leftover dessert, my hubby will eat that!

I was planning to eat half yesterday when I went out for a meal with my husband. Unfortunately the food tasted so good that I ate the lot! 😳

Doobs, I know what you mean! And I think the wine that goes with the meal also contributes makes me forget to be sensible! But I'm really going to try this time. I need to break that habit, because eating out is such a regular occurrence. I'm fed up with the 'binge and bust' scenario!

I'm not always like that. I quite often eat half my food when eating out. It's just that the restaurant we went to yesterday does food that is cooked beautifully. I really didn't need to have dessert as well though ...

Well done Doobs on only eating half. I will think of you when I go on Wednesday! I always like at least a taste of dessert, no matter how full I am!

Hi Skinny! I like your eat half plan. I have found that asking for my "to go" box first and removing the temptation at the beginning of the meal is extremely helpful. However, I don't do this when dining out with friends....too many comments on my being obsessive.

Good idea, Brenda! I think I will eat first and put what's left in the box, if it's good enough to be worth taking! And if I truly want it for another meal, I will have to leave enough for another meal, won't I? I can do this! I'm ready for the comments....

Well good luck only eating half Heidi. If you manage to do it, then you truly have iron willpower and are capable of anything! 😆

Eating out.....I just have a starter now. Last week.in Milton Keynes I had two.starters and kept calories down, but still felt like I'd eaten well. 🍴

I always thought that Snoop until I went States-side and was disgusted by the size of their portions. I ordered a side salad and a bowl the size of a family serving turned up. I'm afraid I asked them to take it away and bring me a more suitable serving - it would only have been thrown away if I hadn't finished it. I'm afraid I also have to admit to ordering large coffees (but Caffe Nero, theirs are slightly smaller than Costa's and 200% nicer coffee!).
