heidij123's Journal, 30 Jan 17

Burns night supper plus a lunch out last week could have been a problem, but I allowed myself some extra calories for those days and made up for them the rest of the week with extra exercise. So I am pleased to record a small drop today 😀 Going out for a birthday meal on Thursday, but I have no other eating out plans for this week, so I think it should be a good week ahead.

At the moment, 1300 cals seems to be working well as a number for 'eating in' days. I'm comfortable with that, and it all seems to balance out okay with the eating out days, when I am happy to have up to about 2200 calories.

Next week we're going away for 5 days. That's likely to mean having about 2200 calories every day, even with mindful eating, but there will be some extra exercise too. There WILL be a weight gain, but I'm sure it will come down again in the couple of weeks following, so that's all okay 😀

Sorry if I'm getting boring about the numbers, but that's what it's all about for me at the moment, trying to find the right numbers and understanding what that translates into in terms of food and exercise.

It's not boring at all. In fact, it's very instructive. So thanks!

No apologies needed on my part, but you know that! Numbers became my steady friends over time. I always appreciate your logical and rational pursuit of your goals. :-) Kind of works out the same for me on workout vs non-workout days, though I do look forward to summer, I just burn more because I like to be out of the house as much as I can.

Definitely don't apologize Heidij. This is your journal (for you and by you) and you are putting your thoughts into text trying to work the numbers out. We just have the privilege to read it. ))) Enjoy your time away and be safe my dear.

Seems as if you're not that far from when you won't even need the numbers, I think they're already just a checking point, and soon you'll be confident enough with what works for you. For now, congrats on sailing through last week, and happy sailing for next too.

Totally get that, I'm about the numbers as well. I know some will say it's not about the numbers, more about the way you feel etc, and that is true also, but I do like to see the numbers behaving themselves!

We need to know this stuff as we it's a learning curve. It's the hardest part I think of any weight loss plan. You are leading the way . 140 ..it's my very, very very long term goal....Maybe March 28th 2023 X 📆📅📆📅

ARB, I am indeed working towards not needing the numbers most of the time. I kind of imagine there will be times when I'll want to use them again, though 😬😁

Numbers are what it's all about really. That's why we are all here, trying to get those dang numbers where we want them. Have a great week buddy!

Numbers are differently important to different people at different times. If they're working for you then stick with them! It looks like they are 👍

Birthday meal, yum. Where are you goin'?

Thanks, all. Going to a little Spanish restaurant not far from here. It's my favourite one in the area 😀

Will you start the meal with some olives and sherry?
31 Jan 17 by member: Scalewatcher3
Not sherry, they don't do that in this part of Spain. In the southwest they would. There probably will be olives. They served a mixed tapas starter, which is always interesting. I often don't like all of them, as it can involve fried food or things like blood sausage 😕 They also serve potato chips (crisps) sprinkled with rosemary and drizzled with honey, which I can highly recommend! Then you choose your main and dessert from quite a wide selection. Desserts are served in small portions, and are things like 'deconstructed apple pie', and 'carpaccio of fresh pineapple with home-made coconut ice-cream'. Carpaccio just means thinly sliced. I might have the home-made brownie and ice-cream if it's on. Mike had that last time, and it looked good 😀
