heidij123's Journal, 03 Apr 16

Ate out a couple of times this week, and haven't done much exercise, so it's not surprising that weight is up a little. I think I can get it down again in the next day or two, so will probably weigh again daily till it's gone.

I've done quite a lot of holiday preparations this week - finished booking accommodation, and sorted clothes out, which has been quite a job. When I started getting summer clothes out, I found nearly all were too big, so I had to take them in. Things that weren't suitable to take in went to the charity shop. Actually some things I was able give to Mike! Luckily found some things to buy in the charity shop, all in very good condition, including some M&S shorts in a UK 14 (that's a US 10). I think M&S sizes are on the generous side, but still pleased about that, and actually the waist needs taking in a little on those anyway 😁

This week is looking busy. We run a fortnightly cinema night, and that's on Tuesday this week. We're showing 'SPECTRE', and expecting a big turn-out, although now I hear it's going to rain, so we'll probably only get half the anticipated number. We also play in a band, and we have a gig on Thursday. It's in the afternoon, at a local old folks home, so that will be interesting! We had to restrict our set to the less noisy, more tuneful numbers, all old songs. It's been fun practising them up, and we're looking forward to playing them in front of an audience.

Have a great Sunday, and a great week, all!

Sounds like you have a really fun week ahead! :) Nice to hear from you - and I envy your tailoring talents! I can hem, that's about it.... I have this one really nice coat that would need major alterations - I can't bear to part with it, but I dare not touch it; think at some point maybe I can get it done in Helsinki.

I love finding clothes that are too big, but hard to say goodbye to old favorites. I have altered a few, but mostly taken to the charity shop or consignment shop. I should alter more of them I guess. I too have a favorite coat that I am afraid to tackle. My DIL is an excellent seamstress so perhaps she can help me. She is so busy I hate to ask her very often.

I don't mind parting with older clothes, but the clothes I've been altering are ones I only bought last summer, and want to get more wear out of! I can't claim to be doing a great job, either, but they will be wearable. Wouldn't like to have them inspected though!

Interesting comment about what you'll play at the old folks home - my outlaws are in their 70s and go to "lunch clubs" that play 40s & 50s music ... but the music of their twenties is Pink Floyd. I do wonder if this will continue and rather than ska and punk, I'll be made to listen to Dean Martin in my dotage.

I love charity shops, I come from a big famil I'm number 7 lol my parents had 8 children so we relied on hand me downs and jumble sales and at witness time we had clothes made for us. We were brought up singing round the piano, dad would play and us kids would sing and harmonise whilst mum tap danced on the floorboards lol good times

I am sure that you will be able to knock that bit of weight off quickly. You are quite the busy couple. It all sounds like great fun. Enj oy.

Phooka, we're in our 60s, a couple of our band members are in their 70s, residents in the home are mostly 80s and 90s. We'll be playing songs from the 50s and early 60s, which should be okay for them I think. Will let you know what sets their feet tapping 😎
