I think the hardest parts have been learning to measure. I've never cooked with measurements. Measuring cups were handy as scoops, measuring implements were something I used in my old life when I made cookies etc for my kids. The other one is recording everything. Though this was easier than the migraine journals my neurologist had me do.

WFN, I hope your migraine's are better these day's. You are truly an encouragement for us all on here, that someday we will be at the maintain stage. Keep up your good work. Truly, J.J.

Thinking more here. Finding what works for you that will fit your life is also hard. I'm still struggling to fit daily exercise into my life. For me I had lost on Atkins, have lots of low carb cookbooks, but each time I gained back plus more. I could not force myself to stick to that plan, all that animal protein and fat made me feel sick constantly. I'm not vegetarian but often go for weeks with no meat. My plan is whole foods, grains, beans, legumes, veggies, fruit, some meat and dairy, limit sugar, drink lots of water, limit alcohol. 1200 calories averaged over a week, now I'm trying for 1400. I'm having trouble getting to that unless I add in beer or wine. I also started exercising a couple years ago, walking more and strength training. I go to the gym, also have a little bit of equipment at home.

Jennifer, my migraines are rare now. I had chronic migraines, actually was never without a headache of some degree. My year of journaling everything, food, environment, activity, weather, preventative drugs to stop the cycle (hated them but needed) and a great doc. Helped me identify the triggers (I try to avoid them now) and eventually he weaned me from the drugs and added a supplement containing calcium, magnesium, D, and zinc. If I start getting one an extra magnesium will usually stop it. I was getting them a few months ago, had quit taking the supplement, ran out kept forgetting to replace it, back on it migraines are gone. I was lucky I didn't have a doc that was one just to throw pain meds at me.
