Nikina70's Journal, 30 Jul 21

Wrote my entire weigh-in entry on the app this morning and it just disappeared after I'd entered it so this is the second attempt on my laptop.

Quite happy with the weigh-in this morning - the aim was to be under 69kg today, but considering I had pizza, cider and chocolate yesterday it's all good! I am still going in the right direction so that's fine. We had pizza on Thursday rather than Friday because there were two perfectly ripe avocados and what better excuse?

Only did one, half hour, ab workout on Monday and felt it for the next couple of days after. Did lots of walking this week, but none of it tracked on Google Fit because of connectivity issues so hopefully from this week I'll start to have clear records again. Still not linking it to FS though - so just logging my walks rounded down to the nearest 15 mins or so, so I usually do more than I log. Probably also a faster pace then the 3kph I've got it on. I don't believe it's very accurate, but it just gives me a rough idea of total calories burned for the day then it's fun to see what the difference is between that and what's consumed.

The goal for August is to get to 67kg. Not sure if the 500g/week average loss will continue or if I'll need to lower my calories or increase activity. Should only be a few weeks now before I get my new weight set so that will be a game changer and I can't wait! Work will be picking up for the next month or two, which is good, but I'll have to manage my time a bit better. Looking forward to that too! Hoping to do a bit more exploring while summer is here as well and we like going during the week when places are less crowded, but will see how things go. For now I'll be happy to just be earning some money so I don't have to worry too much about eating in to my savings - this move has been very expensive so every penny counts. Thankfully Aldi has been a god-send for our weekly grocery shop and such great value for money too. It will just be a while before we feel comfortable eating out because restaurants and pubs are so much more expensive than they are in South Africa and it takes some getting used to. We will wrap our minds around it soon though - and it will help once we're both earning pounds again too. The Rand conversion rate is very sad at the moment, but we'll survive.

I'll hopefully do another YouTube workout over the weekend as the weather's sucky, but then there's also timing it with washing my hair, which needs to happen tomorrow - we'll see how it goes. Not too phased right now while the scale is cooperating. Working towards a lean and toned physique will come with time and I'll take measurements again on Monday morning and see how that's going. Bought a new pair of cargo pants last week that is a bit tight around the waist so will use that as a gauge as well.

Hope you all have a fab weekend and get some good rest so we can start again fresh on Monday. And on to a beautiful and successful August where we all get that much closer to our goals! We got this!

Nikina you are doing a wonderful job, I find walking pace to be about 4kph, I think the legs and their tightness when you warm down gives you a general idea . Enjoy cider! My savings also have taken quite a battering in the last three must budget better. Its the tax we pay when we go out eating out, Britain must have one of the highest taxes in the world!. Have a good day

I'm excited for you to receive your new weight set. Happy the weight is going in the right direction and that you're getting the most out of each deficit before cutting more or adding more activity. Did you put avocado on the pizza? Have a wonderful weekend.

Nikina it is a treat here eating out! 💰. Looking forward to seeing your weights when they arrive x

Thanks Paul! Yes, I think I'm about 4kph as well. I've found a good deal at Asda - 4 for 3 on Kopparberg ciders, which makes them just 1.50 per 500ml. Quite nice as a treat and I usually just have one bottle in an evening maybe once or twice a week. We've found Farmfoods good for frozen things as well to try to stick to a budget. Aah - the tax - we couldn't fathom why the prices were so different from what you pay in store. Hope your savings recover somewhat in the coming months! Have a good day too!

Thanks LC! I'm hoping to get some nice cheap gloves as well - I used to use some very old cycling gloves from my youth before, so looking forward to getting some nice new ones for a bargain somewhere as well - or I tend to get blisters very quickly. Can't wait to do a serious leg workout with Caroline Girvan again. So thankful that you told me about her - I LOVE her workouts! Even without talking through the workouts she just has such a great energy about her and makes me want to work harder. I feel so accomplished once it's done as well. Yes, the avo was sliced and seasoned before putting on top of four cheese pizza fresh out of the oven - was delicious! Hope you have a great weekend too! xxx

PW - I thought it was just us who would have to wait for a special occasion to eat out. Glad we're not the only ones - although really wish it was a bit cheaper instead! Will definitely post a pic of my weights once I get them - although they probably won't be very special - have decided we want to get cast iron ones though rather than vinyl. And I prefer the spin lock (I think it's called) instead of the other kind that has some kind of clasp.

Wow, sounds absolutely delicious! I haven't had avocado on a pizza for ages. So glad you found Caroline Girvan's videos useful. I love that she doesn't talk in her workouts. Re: eating out - it's too bad it's so much more expensive to eat out now but I'm sure it will help you reach your goals faster.

Yup, that's true, LC! At least I know how many calories I'm consuming and not having to guess what a restaurant has used in their recipe. I like that Caroline doesn't talk too - but I had to get used to the timer beeping noise - I just turn the volume way down these days and it's fine.

I'm still quite loyal to the Springboks I'm afraid, Paul. But good luck to both teams!

love this post Nikina! I use the Google Fit on my phone, not a fit bit, and it's more accurate than anything else I've used and never had an issue, don't know if that would help you?! It's lovely to know that u are settling in to ur new house ok and loving exploring ur area, yes the cost of living here can be very expensive when ur having to convert cash to the pound sterling, the pound has always been very strong and the tax very high! I think you're doing amazing so far and have no doubts you are going to smash this, have a nice weekend ❤️

Thanks Bootylicious!1! Yes, I'm liking the app so far even though it sometimes splits a circular walk into two separate ones, but as long as it tracks the overall 'move minutes', kilometres and steps I'm quite happy with it. Hope you have a great weekend too!
