Nikina70's Journal, 18 Jun 21

Just been walking every day this week and calorie tracking (even without a kitchen scale) is going ok. Currently hovering around 1800 average daily calories so I'll try to reduce that to 1700 if I can in the next couple of weeks. As we're still staying with family I'm not restricting so much with food although thankfully we're not snacking much at all, but once we're on our own again it should be easier too.

And it's been really fun trying all sorts of vegan food - the variety and choice is just amazing here. And finding curly fries in the frozen section at Aldi on Wednesday - oh my - how could I say no? They were delicious and I'll definitely buy them again along with the Plant Menu No Beef Burgers.

Hubby and I got our first Covid vaccines on Sunday. We are so grateful! Also bought our first run-around car on Saturday - the first one we went to look at - it's a cute little red hatch-back so easy to park. Seemed to be well looked after, but only time will tell. So far so good with getting ourselves set up in the UK.

On Sunday, after the jabs, we went canoeing on a local river - such fun! I'd never done it before so really enjoyed it, but next time I'll hopefully get a chance to try stand up paddling as well - wasn't feeling like getting soaked in my clothes. So at least there was some activity this week and spent some time in the sunshine on the beach as well.

I also got some new walking sandals after my last ones broke. Will still try to glue those sometime.

It's our niece's 12th birthday on Sunday so I probably won't track as there will be cake and many treats I'm sure. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

So awesome! My hubby's niece who lives in Nottingham, does a lot of SUP on a canal and she loves it. I would really like to try SUP myself. I love reading your news!! Take care, love and hugs.

Great idea to go canoeing the same day as the shot... I had a shoulder workout the day after and - well, let's just say there were a lot of tears.

Thanks piggy winkle - yes, hubby and I have moved back to the UK after 16 years in South Africa where we were both born. He has a British passport through. Yes, we were very lucky to have such great weather before the rain.

Thanks Mermee! Next jab will be in 8 weeks and they will send us an sms to make an appointment. We are so impressed with how efficient it all is. Yes, those curly fries were a great find - we did them in the oven and the seasoning on them is delicious! Hope you can find them there too! 💕

Aah, LCFF! We are going to check out a town called Derby next week - it's very close to Nottingham and also has canals nearby - so we might look into getting some boards of our own at some point if we decide to settle down there. Love and hugs to you too! Hope you're doing well! 🤗💕

Aah no Chris - I can't imagine a whole shoulder workout the day after, but it kinda worked out great for us 'cos we'd heard that the next day is usually the 'sore' day so we couldn't really tell if it was rowing or the jab and we were fine the day after 'the next day' - so worked out great. I am slowly but surely getting closer to that profile update - and hopefully back to maintenance again this year too. Great to see you back on FS again! 🙌

I used my massage stick on my arm and worked out both times. I had zero pain in my arm at any point, although there was a weird red mark below the injection site a few days later. My fatigue symptoms were only after a couple of days on the second shot. I'd say go for the workout on day one and wing it from there.

I agree Katsolo - I think a workout on day one is the way to go. Glad you got both already! 👍💕

Nikina - Derby is nice but remember to check for flooding areas as it was hit quite badly recently.

Sounds like you are having a wonderful time, canoeing, sticking to your calories and trying new foods that fit your lifestyle!

Thanks for the info about flooding, piggy winkle! I've looked into it and we will definitely keep that in mind.
