Nikina70's Journal, 13 Nov 20

Last week was the first time in ages that my daily average was 1690 calories. I thought I'd have a much better weigh-in this week, but it was not to be. It did say 64.6kg on a rug, but I'm going with the hard, if uneven, surface reading cos that's how I started and want to compare like with like. One week of sticking to my calories is not going to do the trick as per usual so I'll have to keep trying to be more consistent.

Did two 40min YouTube workouts this week. On Sunday I started an hour workout and just wasn't feeling it so stopped after 40 minutes and added a 15min Sydney Cummings strength workout instead. The pace of the first one was just a bit manic for me - not really a fan of HIIT and lesson learned although I still think I could do with some more cardio so will see if there are some low impact workouts to add. I also can't really jump around and make too much noise without disturbing my elderly mom, in the room next to ours, who sleeps quite late on week days. On Sunday she was out so I could go wild.

I prefer to go for a long walk so on Tuesday before our weekly grocery shopping we went for a walk, but it only clocked up 3000 steps, which was not enough for me - so hopefully we'll crank that up this week.

Tomorrow we're off to another market so I have no idea what I'll end up eating or if I'll be able to guestimate or just give up on tracking for the weekend. This week has been ok although not as good as last week. I've decided that if I can keep the first 5 days of the week under 7500 calories total that gives me enough to play with over the weekend to still stay under 1700 daily average so I'll try to work with that in mind this coming week.

My mom and sister, who we're staying with temporarily are really challenging me. They have dessert/snacks/treats every evening and often more than one decadent thing is available. I prefer to save calories and only have those things on the weekend (although if they fit into my calorie count I usually do have something). They have things like cappuccino sticks as well and a glass jar of cookies on display - calories everywhere you look... although I've learned to just ignore them. I have lived a long enough time as a size 16/18 - want to continue living my life as a size 12/10 - never want to go back!

My tactic this week was to drink a glass of cold water from the fridge roughly every hour and I've been brushing my teeth after I have my last snack for the evening. Some of my snacks this week have been a bowl of paw paw and one block of Rolo chocolate, which I have as two separate snacks with black coffee - and really savor it. Hope I can keep this up! Christmas is 6 weeks away and summer is here, yikes! Would love my upper arms to be more toned and this pesky little muffin top to get gone, but it's all good. Will try to just keep at it.

Have a good one y'all!

I like YouTube workouts as well. I did a low-impact one yesterday night because I've done a lot of jumping the last few days. It wasn't bad with some resistance added from weights.

Nikina, you have been doing amazing! I really admire your discipline and am sorry for those little challenges you’re facing daily. I am also tempted by snacks and I know that if I don’t see them, I won’t think about them. But having chocolate, chips, and cookies out in plain sight is tough! We buy snacks for the kids and I always end up dipping into their stash. What I do now is have sweets before I work out - like 1-2 chocolate chip cookies before a run or chocolates before lifting - but I won’t have my usual clif bar or oatmeal and eat things like turkey and eggs instead to balance out my macros. I also eat lots of fruit too, which sometimes is enough of a sweet snack plus the added bonus of fiber to keep me full. I hope you have a lovely weekend and are able to enjoy an extra long walk. Still so funny to me that your weather is the opposite of ours, so you get to celebrate your Christmas with a beach day while we wait for a blizzard. 💖

It's all good keep doing your best is your scale digital or the old school kind if so I don't think you are supposed to put the digital ones on rugs just smooth surfaces like bathroom tile if I'm not mistaken have a good weekend

Try dropping your calories to 1300 or so . At that weight that is not enough of a calorie deficit to warrant huge weight loss . If you want faster results you’ll have to drop the calories. Although that calorie intake is really good and will still get you results , it will be slower . I work out 6 days a week and average my calories at 1300 to 1400 , gets me about a kg weight loss per week ... and I’m a couple of kgs heavier than you . Remember as you lose you need to adjust your calories to go lower and lower as your body weight is less and needs less calories 😊😊. Hope this helps a bit 💗💗

Yes, LaughingChevre - it's so great to be able to find exactly the kind of workout you want on YouTube and I never get bored - always something new to try. Glad you've found ones you like too!

Thanks for your kinds words, Mermee - always appreciated! You have so many more, or perhaps just different, challenges as well and you still find time to prioritise your exercise and keep organised so you're an inspiration to many of us! Yes, it's my last sunny Christmas possibly for a while so I'm going to enjoy it. Hope you have a lovely weekend too!

Thanks Jenny3781! My scale is digital and I know it should be one a flat hard surface, but I can't resist seeing what it says on other surfaces too sometimes - as the uneven hard surface is so fickle here :)

Thanks for your comment, Fitmon_dani, but I'm not keen on dropping my calories so much as I know it's unsustainable for me. I also believe that your body needs fuel to function. For someone working out 6 days a week I would think that you need more calories and I'd love to see your food diary to see how you manage it. Also, if you think that you need to lower your calories as you go, which I do agree with to a point - going as low as you are means there's not much room to go down to if you hit a plateau. I am able to stick to around 1400 calories on weekdays, but I find I get really hungry quite often and I'm not keen on feeling deprived - it's a lifestyle change for me and even though I'm not at my goal weight right now I know in time I will be again as I have done in the past. I do calorie cycling so that I can restrict in the week and then can have more of a life on the weekends. I think that often people who think they're losing weight at really low calories are either miscalculating or are just not tracking on certain days or certain times and their average would end up being a more realistic number anyway, but then I could be wrong and there are always exceptions. My journal entries are mostly a way for me to keep track of where I'm at and what's working or not at the time, but I do appreciate you trying to help. All the best!

I hate it when I type with paragraph spaces and then FS makes it all one big blob of text! Grrrr!
